As the forum administrator, I don't (and have never) had anyone on ignore. There have been (and are) members who are just too problematic for me that I don't often reply to their posts. Generally, these are people who make a habit of misunderstanding things that I say, who are unable to take a joke, or who interpret a simple disagreement on an issue as an attack. As I do with people here in town who are just too difficult to have a conversation with, I simply don't engage. I might read what they say and, if they're being reasonable, I might "like" their posts, but I don't engage in conversation.
The only time I've ever used the Block/Ignore feature is on political news sites against trolls who universally (and exclusively) post antagonistic comments. Those things (and the responses to them) clutter the flow of a thread. I've never Ignored in the case of someone I find to be merely annoying...I just don't read the posts/interact. Having had misunderstandings over emails in my corporate life (why do people think I'm angry with them???) I tend to overlook a lot. As I've said before, you can apply whatever tonal inflection you like to yield the intent of your choosing. Of course, some intents are pretty clear. I get over it. Eventually.
"Not engaging" is a problem for me. I have used the "Ignore" only to take it away out of curiosity of what someone said to me. One thing for sure, I like to talk, but, depending on who had done the thread, and the thread, it can definitely be best not to reply. IOW, I'm learning. LOL
If perchance a major narcissist were to come on board, he or she could put everyone on ignore so as to only see their own fantastic posts!
Ken I OTOH have several people in the "ignoring category". I chose no to deal with a person who always want to be right and opine without knowing the issue. As you, I too don't deal with them in real life.
I will be honest and say I don't enjoy interacting (although I do) with people that piss me off (the reason is irrelevant), but I don't know if they piss me off or not unless I read their posts, so I don't use ignore.
I think it is only fair that we are notified when someone puts us on "ignore". If the "ignorer" posts, and I, as the "ignoree" respond, they won't see it. That's no fun.
I've generally no reason to put anyone on ignore. If someone wants to display their colors, whether real or camouflage, let it happen. You get a better idea of who or what you're dealing with.
Bobby, thanks for the advice. I tried that, only I can't tell that my posts are wonderful without other peoples' to compare to. At present I'm just a minor narcissist, not a major one, but there's still time. Seriously, though, I've always recognized some of those tendencies in myself and am not so proud of them. But everyone loves me anyway.
