    The Duke's autopsy was just what I read somewhere Lon, so don't accuse me of being incorrect!

    AND...never having been an embalmer, it is still unbelievable to me!:mad:

    A COMPLETE Autopsy is the ONLY way to know for certain what caused a death. Just because someone had a heart condition for 30 years and dies does not mean they died of a heart problem. They could have been poisoned.

    OK, apparently we have two unrelated threads merged here. One being "have you witnessed an autopsy" and one being "John Wayne/Elvis impacted colon." :rolleyes:

    That could be deferred to Columbo or Adrian Monk, who would have submitted their findings to the D.A.

    As an Embalmer/Funeral Director being my first career I witnessed many and gave
    thought to going to medical school but went into finance instead.

    @Don Alaska

    When my wife's brother Rick, 25, died suddenly in the hospital on Friday, Nov. 28, 1975, two days after he was admitted suffering an episode of ulcerative colitis, it proved to be the "last straw" for my wife (they lost both parents 8 years earlier). Rick was a wonderful kid; we had taken him in after the parents died.

    Hospital claimed their autopsy revealed a pulmonary embolism. I had my doubts. Consider the hospital facing an unpredictably long hospitalization period, no insurance coverage of any type, and the fact Rick spent 4 months in Cook County Hospital after the colitis first presented in 1967; it would have been not unheard of to quietly eliminate such a patient. We considered a private autopsy, but what would have been the use?

    He died on his birthday.

    The only use would have been to determine criminal action or negligence to pass to a lawyer.

    Did John Wayne die of cancer caused by a radioactive movie set?

    "Half of the film crew and eight of the cast of the movie The Conqueror starring John Wayne died of cancer after an A-bomb test in Nevada. It can't be the truth — that many people — can it? Please, Cecil, give us the Straight Dope".

    Cecil replies:

    "I’m horrified to have to report this, John, but your girlfriend’s claim is only slightly exaggerated. Of the 220 persons who worked on The Conqueror on location in Utah in 1955, 91 had contracted cancer as of the early 1980s and 46 died of it, including stars John Wayne, Susan Hayward, and Agnes Moorehead, and director Dick Powell".
