Oh, and get this... the judge allowed the DOCUMENTS TO BE SEALED. What the hell??? Does the public (especially Illinois taxpayers) not deserve to know exactly WTF went on here?
Amazingly, now Rahm Immanuel came out against the State's Attorney and publicly denounced her for "whitewashing justice". I have never agreed with him before.
In my way of thinking, the very reason that the evidence was sealed was to prevent any person, persons or organization from bringing about an effective civil suit against Smollett.
I'm hanging my hopes on a federal indictment for mail fraud or something. This whole thing really burns me up. I'm certainly no fan of Rahm Emanuel, but he made me proud today. https://www.thewrap.com/chicago-may...letts-dropped-charges-a-whitewash-of-justice/
I too enjoyed Rahm’s speech and feel some of his frustration with the case. Since Smollett’s record has been expunged and all of the evidence against him sealed, the only way anyone can pursue him is to find brand new evidence of a wrong doing that is totally unrelated to this case. It’s like the double jeopardy scenario without having to go to court in the first place. With double jeopardy, a person has had his or her day in court and been pronounced innocent. Jussie has not had a day in court, has not been vindicated of the charges but instead it is like there was never any charges brought against him and all the evidence buried. The irony with all of this is that all the charges he made against 2 white guys who wore MAGA hats beating him up and putting a noose around his neck still stand because all the evidence which is contrary has been, for all practical purposes, thrown out. In other words, white, straight male Trump supporters are still under the gun for perpetrating an act which has been proven bogus.
Jussie isn't important enough for a cover-up; maybe Fox or No person, persons or organizations would have any legal standing for a civil suit against this individual and the case would be thrown out on those grounds.
I believe that is precisely my point but possibly not as you are presenting the premise. Anyone, say, the ACLJ can sue but whom could they sue. Mullet? The prosecutor? The Judge? The case is buried so no wrong doing on any side can be presented. No one can even sue if new evidence is brought forward. There is no case.
Also, as an influence, I would look at Fox, who owned the show 'Empire' or Disney, the new owners of Fox Entertainment. These entities have the biggest financial interests at stake. Or, it is what it is.
