You are right-- It does sound like jail.

Although it's been a long time since I've been in jail, I don't remember having a concierge.

@Ken Anderson Last time I was in jail, when the drunk loudmouth punk finally passed out on the floor, the rest of us applauded. I believe it was the concierge's night off.

@Lon Tanner Good for you! Enjoy the visit. The precautions your place is taking are not your fault. None of us want what COVID has done to our lives by the hands of others. Let's be grateful that you are in LA assisted living and not a NYC facility.

    I am HAPPY for you!!!

As a widower, I still live at home, alone. If I try to boil water, I burn it. In other words, I am a disaster in the kitchen so my usual fare is TV dinners or sandwiches.

Just the way an Assisted Living facility has to operate. Right now, at least.

Our dining room is open and we can have all our meals there. I don't know why so many are staying in their apartments and paying $ 5.00 for in room delivery. The menu is the same either place. I see not more than 8 to 10 people when I have a meal in the dining room.

"Residents Are Choosing To Have Meals In Their Apartments---why?"

I would guess because of deception, or mental illness/stress/anxiety, weak body(-ies), maybe weak willpower,
    or
on the more hopeful side, they have a computer in their room and it is better company.

I suspect that a lot of folks, thanks to Covid, are used to eating in their apartment, and just do not feel the need to get dressed to go to the dining room for dinner.

Does the dining room have a limit on how many people can be there at one time? It may be that others are dining at different times than you.

Otherwise, it may be out of an abundance of caution. If people that age get the virus, they will more than likely die.

As Ken said, they are scared.

You may as well ask why people drive around wearing a mask.

Dunno about them but if I was given the choice and it only cost me 5 extra beans, I’d probably opt for my room mainly because I prefer to be left alone.

Yes, I guess if I seen someone with a phone at each meal, taking pictures, perhaps I'd want to eat in my room also. From what I see, Lon, you are the only one that does this and, perhaps, not all of the residents that show up in some of your photos, want to be in them.

Then again, it could definitely be out of caution.
