All it means is to take a straight leg pant and taper it at the bottom and cut it so the hem was just above the ankle. Jean and pant companies caught on and the tapered leg of today took over. It was called pegged because of how soldiers and others with pegged legs had their pants cut and tapered at the bottom. Some of the old-time cowgirls did this to their pants for safer riding or to make tucking into their boots easier.
Good post, Ms Fox. Up and through eight years old I wore shorts and overalls. As an adult I bought three pairs of shorts, I may have worn twice. I still have them in a bottom drawer of a small chester drawers. I'm reasonably sure they will be donated to some charty organization upon my death. I have two pair of jeans hanging in my closet. I don't wear them much because they are a little hard for me to get into. But then it is fair to say getting dressed is one of the hardest things I do whatever I wear. But up until last year or so I wore jeans year round, along with khaki britches and a few other do-dads. I no longer favor denim of any color although light or dark blue is the only color I've worn. I don't get out any more. I stay inside by the fire or the air conditioning. Some days I don't get out of my pajamas, but I don't need to. I handle most things by phone or computer or my son takes care of much. So, it looks denim jeans and I are also losing favor.
Yay! The temperatures are dropping a bit here (actually got down to low 60s a couple of night) so I am dragging the jeans down from the top shelf of the closet. Unfortunately, they seem to have shrank somehow (darn this Florida humidity....that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). BRING ON THE JEANS!!!!!
I mostly wear denim blues, my favorite being Prison Blues, as they make one of the few denim pants that come with suspender buttons. Plus, they have pants in my size so that I don't have to have the length shortened. They also have double-knee work pants.
i worked on the farm when young...overalls were just the best gear...pockets where needed...no pinch at waist...rugged...i still like them..but i don't have any right now...hmmmm
Overalls were great for doing morning chores so I didn't have to redress for school. That was their intended use, but somehow they became a solo garment. I still can't accept them as a women's fashion garment.
Hahaha! With the bib, you can go braless if showing side boob isn't a problem for you. Back in my teen days solo overalls with just a bra was considered hillbilly tacky and only allowed in the lower 40 if no boys were around, but 30 years later it was considered a Hollywood diva fashion statement and now we see girls wearing this combo to school with the legs cut off so short one can see the color of their G string undies.
Hmm. Never heard of that before. It would have come in handy when I was a kid- with too-wide pants bottoms often getting caught in my bicycle's chain. Fortunately I never had a serious accident, but it was bothersome. To the original topic: yes, I usually wear jeans. Sometimes khakis or corduroys, but usually jeans. and I don't care about brand names.
If you have heard of "pedal pushers" then you have the idea. Pedal pushers got their name from guarding against the fabric in chain bicycle incidents caused by more open-legged pants.
Oh, I wore those sometimes when I was a little kid.. didn't know the connection though. By the time I got my first bike, pants/jeans were very wide from the knees down.. I think a little more extreme than the style called flares.
Pedal pushers were the thing when I was a teenager. Thin cotton. And my very brief adult bicycle riding period coincided with the bell bottoms period. They had metal clips you put around the bottoms of your pants legs. They didn't work.
All I ever wear is 34X30 Rustler regular fit straight leg jeans all day, 7 days a week. A few years ago I tried jeans with a warm fleece lining when it got frigid out and they made a big difference, especially on long walks. There are dress pants hanging in the closet that rarely see the light of day anymore and may never will since my plans are to be cremated and I won’t have to get all dressed up for eternity in a box.
