This mail is most likely from "Supplement to Medicare" and "Rx Plans" insurance companies like AARP and Humana.

What I've read is that some supplement insurances will pay the hospital admission fee for you. Just have to check into the details of the supplement.

Actually, I'm going with my wife on November 2nd to SS to get her started on her Medicare B and we will talk to them more about her FRA she is illegible for now.

The medical thing can seem overwhelming, but really isn't..........one you find out about all of it.

And, just to let you know, there are a lot of Seniors/Retirees out there that can afford all this insurance. How? Many have a Pension, plus SS AND, just like Denise said, many of us "downsize" things in our lives in order to make costs. You get financial help from your children and that is really nice. A lot of us don't get that.

True...and I can downsize....I'm even thinking of cutting out my TV because I never watch it anyway....also my home phone....never use that either.

I also have a lot of $10 here, $10 there that can add up.....those may go too.

    Thanks Cody,

Seems like the Lord always provides but we do have to do the foot-work. I really didn't plan on being in the poor-house, but it worked out that way. It's been a blessing in lots of ways. I think I mentioned "how much" I realized I didn't "need" the things I "wanted". I'm also learning to enjoy the things I do have, which is pretty much, the simple life. I did NOT like being homeless, and I was for a time between having no job, and before I could get my SS retirement dough. Those were good times as well though, when I look back. Taught me a whole lot;)

    Good to see you;) denise

So many, including me, dumped cable because I can find all I want online to watch. Netflix for one, is 7.99 a month if you want some sitcoms & movies. Also, I can get the latest, breaking news online. You can sometimes hook your TV to your computer with a simple HDMI cord, and get everything "big screen" too. I don't use a landline because my cell is more then enough. I use a carrier called Total and I get full service off the best towers for 35 a month, no contract. The phone cost me 79 but it's a nice "smartphone" by Moto E.

Oh yeah, I'm with you Chrissy, lots of things/places to cut back but still enjoy some comforts;) hugs, denise

Okay, I just finished talking to someone from Medicare...I dont have to apply til February but I can apply before.

So, next step is for me to call my local soc sec office and step up an appt. i will do that today probably and Im going to try and get one before the new year.

What a relief! As for affording it, I think either I will get some help or I will cut back a few things from my monthly expenses.....I know I can do it!

Thank you everyone for all the help and suggestions!
