The inventor of the electrocardiogram was German, and the German spelling is kardiogram, so that has stuck as the acronym, probably because EKG is smoother phonetically than ECG. At one time, it was hyphenated, as in electro-cardio-gram.
I talked to my baby sister who got her PhD in research on drugs for the heart, so she knows a lot about the heart And she told me not to worry, it's a benign thing. Could have been born with it, could have gotten it later in life, who knows since this was my first EKG ever. She said they'll use this as my baseline from now on. Guess it will be my normal. Still getting the other tests just to make sure everything is ok with my heart. She also said its nothing I did or could have prevented, just one of those things.
I hope all the tests confirm that there are no problems and ease you mind, Chrissy. Here in France every over 55 year old has a 2 yearly medical "bilan" or balance which covers everything and involves a day in a clinic. Over 65's get it every year. It's free for people who are retired or on a low income and covered by contributions from one's salary if working full-time on a decent income. It seems odd to me that insurance would not cover an important medical test.
The tests I had on Friday were covered but the other ones have to be approved, I'm sure they will be. Just the way They do it I guess.
