Thanks Patsy! House are a pain in the butt, especially when you live alone.

Rats were the last thing I'd ever imagine having, always thought of them either in the slums of NYC or out in the country but not in my nice neighborhood.

I never have food laying about and I'm anal about everything being in a sealed container in my pantry which is pretty bare anyway.

Biggest fear wasn't the noise above me but one somehow chewing through the wall or ceiling and me seeing it in my house or chewing through wires and causing a fire.

They also carry diseases. I don't know what they're good for...anything?

@Chrissy Page, I hope the pest control people can solve your problem completely. We had no budget for professional pest control when we moved into this house so we just got a handyman to check on the roof. And it took sometime before the rats were totally eradicated. By the way, I forgot to say that aside from rats, there were also mice sometimes, those small creatures that nibble on anything. What we use for those small pests are fly catcher - that sticky paper. We place a bait in the middle of the fly catcher that we leave overnight in areas suspected of being visited by mice. That sticky paper never failed us.

I hope so too, they'll set traps after the holes are fixed. The holes aren't in the roof but in the vents that are on the roof. After all the rats are dead and if there's no more holes I should be okay.

I've never seen any mice at all, not that I've seen the rats either I just hear them.
