Milla is on her soapbox again. Our leader is entitled to take a holiday same as all Australians. He took it at this time as it is school hols and he wanted to be with his two daughters.. I see nothing wrong with this. I feel for our brave firies too.. we Aussies dig deep into our pockets when our own are suffering.

No plan as yet. It is not a problem at the moment as Australia boasts numerous food bowls and we have dry spells and floods every year. The Aussie man on the land is a hardy soul.. tuff as teak.
Drinking water is the major problem for we cityites if our main catchment runs out of the precious stuff. If things got desperate we will have to import water from interstate I expect.

Milla, are they not under control yet? I haven't seen a thing in our news. Perhaps, I should try to find something to read from your country.

The wildfires have subsided ..well more of them are now contained at least.. but our heatwave conditions return this week with temps into the low 40c. It is feared this may regenerate those fires under control. As for the water situation .. we had some rain on Christmas evening.. but nowhere near what is needed. Things are getting dire. England is having massive amounts of rain.. no flooding I hope. @Patsy Faye

Maybe because drought cycles are somewhat common to Australia. This one just happens to be worse and is projected to last longer. More attention from officials should be paid to the fact that water sources don't get more plentiful just because the population increases. I think it would be a good idea, as @Craig Swanson said in an earlier post, for them to seriously invest in desalination. (As should California.)

Yes, there has been flooding since October and many made homeless, until the rain has finally finished will we know the
ultimate ending to all the rain.
I think of Australia too, every day - besides the human cost, the animals are suffering badly too
Saw a Koala running through the flames, his little bum on fire. A lady caught him, saving his life.
Another Koala was given bottled water which was guzzled down, it was taken away when finished and the little fella
reached out for that bottle (please don't take it away) the bottle was replenished and he guzzled that.
You need a miracle as no rain is expected - we can only pray it will come

@Craig Swanson I didn’t say he wasn’t entitled to a holiday just that he was shamed into coming home .

The shame bit is the fact the government was not supplying food and essentials for the volunteer firefighters
the pubic were ..I heard this morning volunteer firefighters are going to be compensated for their time off work ( with no pay ) to help with the fires

@Milla Jonas I misread your meaning then. You reckon a socialist PM wudn't have done the same. I reckon rather than shame.. he felt obligated to return.. after all he did cut short his holiday. He may have been shamed into not paying the firies with Albanese (Opposition leader)calling for for this. The firies and SES have refused saying they do this voluntarily and willingly. They really are exceptional people. Anyway Sco Mo is now bowing to pressure and is offering monetary compensation for salaries lost while they are battling these neverending wildfires. That is more than fair.. they deserve every cent

That is horrible Patsy. No fatalities I hope.
The Koala is drunk most of the time from chewing gum leaves.. you knew that? I also saw a story about a burned joey (juvenile) roo that lost its mother and was being attended to by a woman..

My fone says it is now 42c at 1pm in Sydney. I poked my head outside the door and it feels like a furnace.
So Sydney is having an extended heatwave, the worst wildfires probably in our history and the Sydney mayor is still having the annual fireworks display that rings in the New Year. We are also expected to be hit by a blustery cool change later in the evening.. just the thing a fire needs when you have hundreds of fireworks blasting over our harbor.

It was almost called off but the powers to be won the day. Let's hope they dont regret it.

You need a miracle as no rain is expected - we can only pray it will come.
Thanks you Patsy so do we. I have posted a new comment in the Running Out Of Water thread. http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/california-running-out-of-water.14687/#post-394554
I am bewildered by the stupidity of those controlling our governments.

Craig, I meant to tell you that the rain subsided here a few days ago, was hoping it would make its way to you but
the temperatures are soaring for you :(
I don't understand having the firework display - just adds to the already high pollution
Can only keep on hoping and wishing for you all
