Grateful for your concern Holly. It has been the same in my state the past month. Sweltering temps past two days and many of those contained fires are now back to emergency level again.
That is good news Patsy. Yes we need all of your rain. The pollution is shocking. More and more people using face masks now. Authorities almost cancelled the Sydney NY fireworks but the mighty $ won out.
Our twelfth firery perished yesterday when his 12-ton fire truck was lifted into the air and dumped on its roof by a 'freak' fire tornado south of Sydney. The tornado or a collapsed pyro convective column causes cyclonic winds over a fire front. This is the first such fire tornado that I can recall being reported and we have a fire season almost annually. Several holidaymakers are also reported missing in Victoria. Fires have razed more than 4 million hectares (9.88 million acres), which is bigger than Belgium, in the last few months of 2019. and they are set to burn for months more. Senior fireys call this "unprecedented" saying both state and federal governments have been "woefully ill-prepared for what they were warned would be catastrophic conditions." NASA analysis showed Australia's fires generated over 250 million tons of carbon dioxide. That was close to half this country's annual CO2 emissions. Yet we continue to open new coal mines and use oil based fuels to power almost everything.
I was looking at a satellite image of southeast Australia and it shows smoke from the fires being blown west to east and over the ocean. The other direction would blow flames inland which would make things worse. Our TV news showed people on the beach apparently pushed that way by the fire. I believe they mentioned possible air rescue.
Yes our air force has been called in to help with rescues. This is the latest @Ed Wilson.https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-01/bushfires-what-now-for-stranded/11835764
My heart aches for all Aussies effected by the fires. this one in Victoria where people were forced to flee the vicious fire front and seek safety on the beach ...... WAS a beautiful area quite a few diary farms along with milk processing / cheese factory’s /butter / most dairy products you a think of made in area...... I’m so speechless ...no it’s so sad .....I know people in the area , I have spoken to them they have fled with caravan in tow
Sad for our county to be in such a terrible state . I honestly don’t know what anyone can do to try to stop the fires TBH
I said the same thing here http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/my-nation-is-burning.14692/page-2 while in my soapbox POST NO 20 @Ken Anderson all the greenies thinking has got us into a huge mess in Australia
