Guilty of that too. I started that last year, all i was getting were big kids later in the eve, they were too big for treats, some were taller than me, which wouldn't take much.
I carved the first jack-o-lantern I've done in probably 15 years, laid in a huge supply of cheap candy and sat out at the end of the driveway for 2 1/2 hours, swatting mosquitos. I had at the most 30 kids, a number of which were "older" kids not in costume. Nobody seemed overly enthusiastic about it. I think trick-or-treating as we knew it, is dying out. "Trunk 'n Treat", trick-or-treating at the mall or town center or "harvest festivals" at the churches are taking over. As much as I love Halloween, I'll probably pass on it next year.
I bought a package of my favorite candy. No trick or treaters showed up. I've got the whole sack to myself.
