Prayers with you, Shirley. Good luck. I've been through a few when I lived elsewhere, but they are predicting Florence to perhaps be the worst storm ever to hit the U.S. mainland.

I am adding my prayers as well, @Shirley Martin . How close to the ocean do you live ? Are you close enough that you will get the full brunt of the wind and flooding like poor Ina did when Harvey inundated Texas, or are you far enough inland to miss the worst of it ?
The weather channel news alert said they are evacuating people from the coast. Do you have to evacuate where you are at, and are you able to do that if necessary ?

It appears that Florence will be a tough one. We are just tickled that she isn't going to hit us here in northeastern Florida/Jacksonville. Hurricane Irma done enough damage to the area, including the St. Johns River, last year. Actually, our boat, and others sitting on racks in dry storage, was fine. Thank You, Lord, for that.

We are in a No Evacuation Zone, so don't ever have to leave for a tropical storm or hurricane.

Hope everything turns out ok for you @Shirley Martin, and the thing passes over quickly without much damage. Sounds like you are prepared as best you can be. Good luck.

There is fear that inland will bear the brunt of the storm. I have heard predictions of 3 to 4 FEET of rain in the North Carolina and Virginia mountains. Flash floods and extreme damage are predicted. Nobody knows if those forecasts will be realized or if they are predictions to try to make people take the threat seriously.

A significant update is likely at 5PM from the NHC. Weatherboards are in a tizzy over latest model runs, especially from the favored Euro model.

Round and round she goes, where she stops.... nobody knows.

The realm of possibilites now include Florence hugging the coast southward, spreading copious amounts of rainfall deep inland... all the way to a possible landfall in Georgia. The NHC has been bending the forecast southward, with current line indicating a landfall on the SC and NC border. Likely to change on next update.

It look like Helene is heading northward and towards the British Isles. Do they even get hurricanes up there, @Holly Saunders ? If it keeps going, you will for sure be getting rain and storms, from the looks of the weather tracker.

Yes we do get hurricanes here Yvonne, nowhere nearly as bad as the USA..but often the tail end of one from the other side of the pond. They mentioned on the forecast this morning that we're heading for one next week.. not Florence tho'... but Helene....

For now they're not sure whether we'll get the full blast of 100 mph winds and storm, or if it will swerve and bring us tropical heat and winds...

    read more here...
Gales and torrential downpours threaten to hammer swathes of the country early next week if Helene makes a direct hit on the UK.

However the tropical storm could narrowly swerve the country and instead supercharge a sweltering blast of heat already poised to send thermometers rocketing towards 30C (86F).

Helene’s path and impact will depend on whether she collides with the jet stream over the coming days and the atmospheric conditions over Britain after the weekend, experts say.

Some early weather models predict furious winds whipped up by a deep low-pressure system associated with the hurricane will pummel the nation.

Helene is one of three ‘life-threatening’ storms churning the Atlantic with Isaac and Florence about to unleash a deadly assault on the American continent.

Hurricane Florence is on course to smash the eastern United States on Sunday with Tropical Storm Isaac expected to make landfall on the Dominican Republic around the same time.

Helene is forecast to make a u-turn away from America at the end of this week before hurtling towards the UK.

I have never known them to have as much trouble predicting the path of a storm as they have this one. 48 hours ago, they had it coming directly over Raleigh which would bring it over my house. Now they say it's going to turn and go into South Carolina. It's predicted to be devastating on the NC and SC coast but we here should get mostly rain with some moderately high winds.

I remember when Harvey made landfall in Texas, and it was a nightmare for poor Ina, and the flooding lasted long after the hurricane and rains were gone. She was still struggling with damage done to her house at the time she died that winter.
Hopefully, you are up high enough and far enough away from where it makes landfall that you do not have to go through that, @Shirley Martin . Praying for your safety !
Try to keep us updated if you can, so we know that you are okay. You will probably lose power, so won’t be able to write much, but I am hoping that you will still be able to get on line at least a little.
