It's actually an almost-free trip for us. I called Choice Hotels to book our now-annual trip to Arlington, Virginia to visit our daughter's grave and our grandchildren on her birthday. We are members of the Choice loyalty program, and after I booked the reservation, the agent asked if I would like to earn an extra 10,000 points. Well, sure! I can get two free nights out of 10K points! So, it turned out we could go to a resort in any of 20 or so cities in the country, for either 7 or 3 days. All we had to do was sit through the spiel for a timeshare and withstand the high-pressure selling. In days gone by, we had taken more than one vacation using that method, and we always enjoyed it. Last time, though, we ended up with a 4-bedroom timeshare in the Barrier Islands of North Carolina. To be honest, the cost was only $10,000 which was a steal, as it would translate into more than 10 weeks of vacationing easily! But life got in the way, and it didn't end up so wonderful...another story for another time, I guess. I chose three days because of the cats, and New Hampshire because it's only 5 hours away. So we paid $99.00 total which got us 3 days and 2 nights, a few free meals, $50 off on a massage which we didn't use, and a very comfortable studio with a fabulous view. And having learned our lesson in the Barrier Islands, we did say no. @Frank Sanoica, the elevation here is about 820'. It did pop my ears, but having lived for a time in Santa Fe, it's still full of flatlanders.
@Michelle Anderson "the elevation here is about 820' Did you maybe leave off a zero on that? 820 feet is rather low, in my mind, but I am not familiar with the area being discussed. Frank
My ex had a timeshare somewhere and then he bought a cheap one in this area and we took a few nice trips, also sat through some timeshare presentations to get something or other. One trip was to Napa Valley and we did the wine train, that was fun...then we were going to go to Tahoe but my back spasmed for the first time in my life so we cancelled that one. That was the start of my back problems and then my ex and I split so never made it to Tahoe.
