Off the subject alittle, but as 2019 rolls around, I'm still waiting for my Jet Pack, Flying Car, Food Pills and the like! They PROMISED me. How much longer do I have to wait?
How to make Legendary New Years Resolutions "For even more goal setting inspiration, check out a few of Woody Guthrie’s new year’s resolutions from 1942. You may be familiar with his work even if you don’t recognize his name. Guthrie wrote many classic American folk songs, including “This Land is Your Land”. His work has inspired artists from Bob Dylan to Wilco, and his influence continues to be felt in the folk music scene today."
A clean sweep for the new year! "Wayne began my introduction to sedge brooms by bringing out his collection of various-sized brooms, some a decade or two old. He explained that over the years of gathering broomstraw, or sedge, as some folks prefer, he noticed that “there’s more than one kind of broom out in those fields.” I acknowledged that, yes indeed, there are several different species, and he had a keen eye to detect their differences." "The one I believe is most commonly used for broom-making is old-field broomstraw, or broomsedge, Andropogon virginicus. We walked out into Wayne’s front yard and discovered he had two different species right there." Wayne Poole displays some of his collection of broomstraw brooms.
I remember back in my teen years, the ONLY way to spend New Years Eve was so (preferably ) be with a couple of my schoolgirl friends, and we would gather at one of our homes and then listen to the top 100 countdown on the radio. I thought it was always done by Casey Kasem , but when I looked him up on Wikipedia, it said he didn’t start doing the American Top Forty until 1970, and by then I was grown up and married. However, he did work on radio before that, first at Flint Michigan, and later in Los Angeles. The top 100 we listened to on New Year’s Eve was re-broadcast from some large station, and carried all over the United States, so it is possible that it was Casey , even back in the late 1950’s. At any rate, that was what I looked forward to every year, and even after I was grown and married, I usually listened, and I loved hearing the songs that had been hits earlier in the year and then forgotten as new songs came out. Of course, there was always the excitement of trying to guess which song would make it all the way to Number One, as some of the hopeful ones got eliminated along the way. After the music changed, I stopped caring which song was a hit, and I have not listened to this in years, have no idea if they even do that kind of thing anymore.
