    Closer to home, a bird I'd seen a number of times in England, but not in Scotland...until last year. A great-spotted woodpecker.

    I am suddenly reminded of Mono a Japanese group I have followed since they formed in 1999, they are classified as instrumental rock, but to me are on their own in their style. I find you really need to listen to them at full volume and preferably on headphones, I can get completely lost in their music as it flows from lyrical to a crescendo of distorted fury at times. It can be an acquired taste :rolleyes:

    Pied kingfishers are a common sight in many African and Asian countries. I've seen them around the Nile and also in Sri Lanka. They have one unusual trait for a kingfisher - they often hover before making a dive, which is what this one appears to be doing.
