Good luck, @Tom Galty. We were just in Reno for a few days last month. I enjoy Reno more than Vegas as it isn't as hectic and you can walk most places as it it an older town, at least in it's development. We found some of the taxes there abhorrent, especially on rental cars, so we probably won't go back. The casinos seemed friendlier, though.

Back home and a great holiday except for a black security guard at the place I was

Was waring a MAGA hat and he demanded to show prof of my identity I showed him my room key and was told I had to show him proof of identity.

What pleased me I accused the Black basterd of Racism and he then he wished me a nice day

Are you going to stay downtown at the same hotel or someplace else? I worked for a privately owned bank when I was 21 and they did an employee exchange program with a casino for almost 3 months one summer. I worked at the Union Plaza downtown as a cashier. It was great, but I was happy to get back home.

Fall of 1972, my older nephew Dan & I having taken over an ARCO service station in Vegas, we took our wives the the Union Plaza to see a big show. Having worked 6AM to 6PM, we were dead tired, to say the least. We both fell asleep during the show!

    Las Vegas Union Pacific Station
Prior to the construction of the casino, part of the site was used for the first train station in Las Vegas, a Spanish style depot, constructed in 1906.[2] It was replaced in 1940 with a Streamline Moderne train station designed by H. L. Gogerty, with a Union Pacific shield, and "Streamliners & Challangers" neon sign.[3] This station was demolished in 1970 and replaced by the Union Plaza Hotel,[4] which included a small waiting room to be used as a station for Amtrak trains.
