    About a month after my son was born, the pediatrician prescribed camforated tincture of opium or commonly known as paragoric for an intestinal problem he had.
    When it didn’t seem to be working I consulted with my next door neighbor who was an elderly retired MD. He told me to cut out everything in his diet and give him 7-UP for a couple of days and sure enough, the kid started filling up his diaper with uh....the healthy stuff..........

    The Be Independent advertisement reminded me of The Have More Plan that came out in 1947.

    It seems like the back to the land idea comes up every other generation or so.

    I have that book too. It was the beginning of the "new" back-to-the-land movement after WWII.

    @Al Amoling
    I believe Sears offered a small car named the "Allstate", and it was indeed built by Henry J. It was badged as an "Allstate" specifically to be sold only by Sears. It was only offered in 1952 and '53.

    The Allstate was the brainchild of Henry J. Kaiser, who saw Sears as another means to mass-market his slow-selling "Henry J" two-door sedan, introduced in 1950. It's engines (2) were built by Willys Corp.

    The year you were born doesn't tell us anything, Gloria...I was born in 1936, can you beat that?

    Yes, it does. It tells us that she has a magazine that was published the year she was born and she enjoys the old ads that appear there. When I look at old newspaper or magazine ads, particularly from the years of my childhood, I like seeing what was advertised then, and the prices that were asked.
