OMG, my mother was the original "old wife." She had a million of 'em. If someone had a wart, they were supposed to steal a dishrag and bury it. (We never had dish towels; just dish rags.) If you got a stye on your eye, you had to go down to "the crossroads" and say "stye, stye, leave my eye" three times, turn around and walk home without looking back.

I could go on for days, haha.:D

I can remember an old news paper comic strip "Katzenjammer Kids" about that one.

What "starving children" were you all chided about?

We were Protestant and most of our missionaries were in Africa, so I was told "an entire African village could live for a month on what you leave on your plate, young lady!"

My Catholic friends had the "starving Chinese orphans" thrown at them.

My father told me that his particular burden was the "starving Armenians".

Going barefooted will make your cramps worse.
White spots on your fingernails represent all the lies you've told recently.
If you swallow gum, it will stay in your stomach 7 years.

"The Katzenjammer Kids" was also called "The Captain And The Kids".

    Same here.

If you pull a strange face and the wind changes, you'll be stuck that way

Eating your crusts would make your hair curly

If someone yawns and you like them, you yawn too

Eating carrots can help you to see in the dark

My mother told me this one. She didn't believe it either.

To cure warts, rub the wart with an old dishcloth. Bury the cloth. (When it rots, the wart will be gone)
