I have no idea whether this is new or not; I really don't keep up with the conspiracy theories because I believe most of them are absurd. I have a friend who is totally immersed in the "deep state" and all of that stuff; I think her level of paranoia is actually pretty annoying.

It wouldn't be a civil war. We have one government.

It would be a bunch of savages on a killing spree.

    @Emma Smith
Would both sides be considered savage, or would the government's forces be excluded?

@Frank Sanoica Do you think if there WAS a conflict, soldiers would actually turn on the other citizens? With social media, I think they may choose sides instead. I don't know. What do you think?

In our own civil war, it took less than a year for 11 states to attempt the succession. Each state had it’s own militias which combined to create an army capable of going against the already established American (Union) military.

Even though there are a whole set of different circumstances and factions at work, history has taught us that having a single government isn’t a safeguard against what could be a very violent internal war with the one single government at risk.

I think if past history be used as a guide, "talk is cheap". Before passage of the Clinton Crime Bill, at least two State Governors, Texas and Montana I think they were, publicly affirmed that enactment of the bill would result in their state seceding from the Union. A fighter pilot's association stationed out of Luke Air Force Base west of Phoenix, Arizona, announced they would break from the orders and use their equipment if needed on the side of the protesters. Clinton prevailed, and bullshit walked.

I fear the same results would prevail again. That's what I think. But, I am also the world's confirmed pessimist, as well as inalienable believer in clasping Truth always.

@Frank Sanoica You aren't pessimistic. You just have opinions based on true facts which are rarely positive. :)

Since a civil war is simply a war between people of the same country, it would seem that we are already in a verbal/social media "civil" war. Or maybe "uncivil." :D

Interesting way of putting it, Bess. You are able to promote a mollifying effect over potentially explosive content, an ability I lack.

    civil war noun
a war between political factions or regions within the same country.

I think It's insanity to talk about an actual war between one political group and another in the U. S.

Stirring the pot, getting people worked up against anyone or anything has made some horrific things happen.

@Frank Sanoica - the govt's forces attacking civilians? You've given this a lot of thought... don't forget, it's all just in people's minds... a very dark, fatal "what if..."

The people who are stoking the resentment in the country are just puppet bought and paid for. They are sending too much time on the puppets and they need to arrest the puppet master. It is like arguing with Ventriloquist dummy. Start with Soros and his NGO's

I honestly think most Americans are too lazy to dive into a Civil War. It may mess up our internet service, Amazon deliveries and pizza run. :D
I don't mean that in a bad way. We are just probably more content than we think we are.
However, it is possible, trying to take our guns or religious freedoms away, WOULD be the scale tipper.

I hope it doesn't come to actual war, but when we have people trying to overthrow our government they have to be stopped whatever it takes. If some of the leaders start going to prison that should stop it but I'm doubtful they will ever be arrested.
