So, John, an old/older Buckle Bunny and you would get along fine, right? Don't know what a Buckle Bunny is? Look up online.
Funny, we seen Jess Brown today "dogging" at the Sister's, Oregon rodeo on the Cowboy Channel. Very famous Breakaway Roper, JJ Hampton, was there also, but broke the barrier. Actually, we watched Breakaway Roper Jackie Crawford win The American and $100,000 earlier this year. Her daughter was standing right by the roping box when her mom won. I've got video of Jackie getting her buckle and other awards at The American. Currently, we are watching very closely: Rocker Steiner, Cory Solomon, John Douch, Sage Kimzey and the Wright brothers. We don't "drop" names. We are just very, very proud of whom we met, talked to and got a picture of us with, like: Mike Beers. Dan Mortenson, Martha Josey, Fred Whitfield and so on. Two of our living room walls are adorned with all of those World Champions beside us.
Yes, Colorado does have ranching and cattle, but that sure doesn't mean our County has that much. Actually, at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, the Livestock Barn is really, really full. Lots and lots of ranching done in southeast Colorado.
I still don’t get your attitude though. If the theme is soooo ridiculous to you then don’t go. It’s really that simple. No muss, no fuss, no complaining, no entrance fees, no parking hassles but you’ll have to make your own funnel cake and a grilled sausage with peppers sandwich. Instead, take your boat out for a spin and do some fishing. You can even wear your boots and hat and call it a bass rodeo. First fish you catch, throw a clove hitch around it’s tail in 3 seconds and you win.
Bobby, you don't live where we do. Really. If you did, you'd realize exactly what we are talking about. If I wouldn't have read in Facebook about the 2022 Fair Theme, I wouldn't known or even thought about it. We went last year and had a good time. Walked thru the livestock barns, had a grilled sausage and a funnel cake. While looking around the Fair grounds, the only people that had western attire on were the ones with livestock in the livestock barns. So, outside of the barns, people either thought we were part of the upcoming rodeo or that we had livestock at the Fair. This isn't the first time we've seen the theme of some kind of event with a wild title. Ask anyone here in Loveland and they will tell you "Loveland isn't western/cowboy/rodeo or ranching at all and neither is the County". We've lived here for almost 3 years now, we know what we see and don't see. The city looks more like a small version of Los Angeles than a city in Colorado. Denver looks the same way. Actually, people up north here refer to Denver as "Colorado's version of Los Angeles" and we've been told that.
So don’t go….. With all the crap that’s going on in this country and you’re more worried about the theme of a fair than you are about the cost of the gas it’s gonna take to get you there. No matter what the theme, the rides and grab joints are all going to be the same. The hankiepanks and the alibi joints are going to be the same. The barns for the local stuff is going to be the same and the best apple pie winner will probably be the same as it was last year. 4H and FFA will be the same with the possible exception that last year’s winning pig became pork chops and the winning bull is wearing a smile in some pasture. Trust me, if you don’t make an appearance I’m sure no one will notice, no one will care except you and no one will miss the money. In short, find something you do like and stop worrying about some dumb theme. No wonder you’re in such bad shape. All that stress from worrying about stuff that really doesn’t matter.
Thanks for that. I learned something. I guess every form of entertainment has its gropees/groupies. This is from UrbanDictionary.com: These cowgirl wannabes will often manipulate [Buckle-winning] cowboys with their cleavage and by lying to them (about how they're true country girls and how they have a horse etc.) in order to get [Buckle-winning] country men interested in getting intimate with them. LOL!!! I don't know which cracks me up the most: being manipulated by cleavage (pretty universal), or requiring equestrian ownership (profession-specific and sorta irrelevant.) I can see the guy sizing her up now: √ Breasts X Horse DAMMIT!!! "Ma'am, can't you tell me you have a sore throat, 'cause right now 'hoarse' is close enuff." UrbanDictionary.com said nothing about age. But if I conjure up a mental image of latter-day Tom Jones or Rod Stewart concerts, I guess I get the drift...although your description had me thinking more of The Current Generation That Has No Label. The Seattle PBR Cowboy Bar Buckle Bunnies Apparently being a Buckle Bunny is a real job, with healthcare and vacation. Lots of organizations have Buckle Bunnies. Who knew?
To add to Faye's post: You're never going to find that Shangri-La where there is nobody under 70, everyone absolutely adores rodeo and wants to talk about nothing else, and lilacs don't grow. Wherever you move there will be tattoo parlors and people with tattoos, folks walking around wearing the wrong hats, fairs with "ridiculous" themes, people who aren't interested in rodeo, don't know what a header is, and don't have the proper appreciation for the huge number of rodeo stars you claim to have met, and, I hate to have to break it to you....there will be millenials. Lots of millenials. And they aren't going away. They're going to be augmented by the Gen Z's or whatever that generation is called and you'll be annoyed by them, too. You don't have to "embrace" or even "accept" what you don't like, but if you're ever going to be happy you're going to have to learn to ignore it. Life's not going to adapt to you; you're going to have to adapt to life. You say that the only young folks you like are the ones involved in rodeos,, ranching and farming. Why not put your knowledge to use and get involved with groups like Little Britches, FFA or 4-H? They always need volunteers and would appreciate your expertise. You could be helping a whole new generation get acquainted with rodeo and roping.
Thanks for your reply here, Mary. First, it's only a part of the Millennial Generation that bugs us...........the "big city" ones that ride skateboards and such, like we have in the city we live in now. Due to the Pandemic, or whatever, nobody anywhere wants to say a word to each other. I mean, young or old/older folks. Wife and I always have to strike up a conversation or even say "good morning" to those that live here. It just seems like there is a big, almost major, confliction between Generations here. IOW, not all, and let me repeat that, not all, Millennials bug us. As far as volunteering, we don't do that. If either of us work for someone, we want to be paid for it. Only those seniors that have a nice Pension/SS coming in, can basically volunteer for things. And, on top of that, I won't do something unless my wife is involved with what I'm doing. We know about the tattoos and such, but we continue to look for somewhere where that stuff isn't as nearly popular as it is where we live now. That "look" here is becoming extremely popular and more and more young folks are moving to this city because of it. Have said this before and will continue to say it, this city is looking more and more and more like Los Angeles every single day. People who live here say how bad Denver is, well, they had better take a much closer look at their own city here! It's like I told Bobby, "if I wouldn't have seen what the 2022 theme is, I wouldn't have said a word."
Actually, John, a real "Buckle Bunny" is the kind of young girl that only knows, and only wants to know, "do you 2-step or Texas Swing?". As far as rodeo and/or equestrian (horses) go, they know nothing and don't want to know anything. And, on top of that, most-to-all older rodeo cowboys know about "Buckle Bunnies" and stay far away from them. Heck, the guys I knew in rodeo, had to take care of their horses after a rodeo, not head to the Rodeo Dance after the rodeo. I was already headed for home, with horse/trailer, when the dance was going on!
Anyway, folks, I shouldn't have started this thread in the first place, since nobody here really understands the "weirdness" my wife and I thought of the theme. We will be going to this Fair in August, and like last year, have fun. Love looking at the livestock and taking photos of them.
Actually, I think we all learned a lot about different stuff. And those themes for local and government activities aren't created by normal people anyway. They're concocted by those who are perpetually stuck in Glee Club mode.
.. So the urban dictionary written by urban wanna bees rodeo cowboys is defining a woman or girl as a whore based on how they are dressed. What a bunch of ignorant crap! The only people I have ever heard use this derogatory term based on ignorance is arrogant failed pricks, ones trying to make themselves important and on a level with the real deal rodeo cowboys. The term was started in recent years and its birthplace is the internet. Your use of such a term shows your expertise concerning rodeo is mostly internet learned. The idea that all rodeos have young women dressed scantly for the sole purpose of having sex with a champion buckle winner is just ludicrous. No doubt that exists, but more with women dressed in the latest fashion western wear, tight full-length jeans, and full-length tank tops, trying to appear like they are barrel racers. I know several real deal young rodeo cowgirls and young ranch women that go to the rodeo in hot weather dressed, that by your internet intelligence, makes them a whore. When you throw around these "urban" terms you expose yourself and not in a favorable way. . I volunteer for many things and I don't have any big pension coming in. I have a small one and SS and could use extra money but I won't demand pay when things like rodeo and 4H depend on many volunteers. I help my neighbors. all ages. all the time for free. that is the ranching way. When you can't mentor and help a kid in 4 H unless you get paid, well that is just arrogance, selfishness, and thinking you are more important than you are. Shameful!!!
