It's best to live in a place where there isn't any hot weather. Of course, then they complain because you leave them out in the cold.
It's so hot out now at 11:30 AM that I burned my hand touching the handle of my garbage can to bring it back from out front!. I can't even imagine the inside of a car in a Fresno parking lot today.
Heat, mixed with humidity, is why there are no rodeo's here in the summer. Horses would have a heart attack doing rodeo events in the arena.
It's hard for me to understand why anyone would own a thick coated dog (Husky, Golden Retriever, Irish Sitter type dogs) in Florida. But, have seen those dog breeds here and "panting" like mad. We had a Husky (1/2 Malamute-1/2 Siberian) when we lived in Colorado. She tolerated the summers and absolutely loved snow and winter.
Oh, it will happen. You'd be surprised, and most likely, like any dog lover, angry about it. But, have to keep the anger to ourselves (or on this forum). That's the safe way of doing it.
I wanted to add, just before we got Nikki, our Husky, we bought and I built a nice dog house for her. We picked the shadiest part of the back patio to put a water dish and I'd always fill it with cold water before I went to work in the AM. We also bought, and installed a sliding doggy door for the back patio door. We'd leave the doggy door open at night so she could go into the living room and curl up on the couch. We put a blanket on the couch, so her coat wouldn't get all over. We took her to a dog park and even on our boat.
Since the ac in our car is not working well, we have a thermometer placed in ac vent. Yesterday I got in the car it was 130 degrees! That is enough to kill human or animal in no time. As to why people leave anyone or pet in a car especially in summer is beyond me. I guess the ole saying is correct...ya can't fix stupid !
why do they take their dogs with them-- i have a puppy so if i have to out i crate him because he still gets into things-i use to have a lab/chow mix he only got in my car to go to the vets then we always came right home
Maine passed a law to protect people from liability if they break someone's car window if a pet has been left in a car during hot temperatures. It makes sense, on the surface; unfortunately, people aren't always sensible. While I was at the supermarket last summer, a woman was trying to get the store manager to call the police because someone had left their dog in their pickup truck while they were shopping - but it was only about 70 degrees and both of the windows of the truck were open. When I laughed with the manager about that later, she told me that another woman had complained about someone leaving a dog in the car, despite the fact that it was left running with the air conditioning on. Now that we have a law, if I get really bored I suppose I could drive around with a hammer, breaking windows. I used to have a cat who enjoyed riding with me places, but most of the cats I've had hated going anywhere in a car. Even the one who enjoyed drives would get scared if I left her in the car alone, so I wouldn't take her with me shopping. I suppose they always think they're going to end up at the vet.
