My answer for Part 1 is he still should have to serve the 140 years left on his sentence. If he would have been sentenced to life in prison then when he died that life would have been finished. But he was sentenced to 150 years...and he only served 10 of those years...so he still has 140 left to go on his sentenced.

In Part 2 my answer is that since he was sentenced to capital punishment for his crimes and this capital punishment was never carried out...the death penalty is still enforceble and should be carried out. If he had never been sentenced and was still just going throught the trial to prove his innocence or guilt...it would be different as the statue of limitations on his crime would be expired. But their is no expiration date once he is sentenced...unless the Governor pardoned his crime.

Part 3 Since he is no longer a deceased person his conviction would no longer be abated and so the appeal should be continued and he is not free to go.

Regarding the killing of animals, regardless of your "spin" regarding it, while we lived in Missouri, a local radio station (we had no T-V or internet available), published daily reports of the Beef and Pork "kill": Around a quarter-million of each, give or take some. DAILY!

Was this ever viewed by the "cruelty to animals" folks?

Actually, regarding the snake question...I saw what I assumed was a corn snake on Weds. It was partially straddled on the road. I was going kind of fast at the time..and wasn't going to jam on my brakes for the snake. I may have hit a part of it, but I am not sure. I didn't look back to see the consequences. It wouldn't have been a dead on hit anyway.

I would drive over the snake and doubt that it would kill it.

I didn't read all the replies but I would back up and turn around and find another way to go. There is no way I would run over it, not because I love snakes but that would be messy.

This seems to have evolved into a discussion of snakes. May I share a few of my slithery friends? And none of them have bitten my heels.

    Shirley's question...
You are guaranteed ten years of total happiness in your life. The rest will be suffering and sorrow. What will you chose, the first younger years or the last years?

I would choose 10 years of total happiness, you really aren't living if you are suffering and in sorrow.

Yes, I would tell the host or hostess and ask for a plunger and try to declog it myself. If you don't say anything the next person might go in and try to flush it causing more of a mess....then everyone will know about it.

@Chrissy Page , you simply must STOP this and get out of my stinkin' head! I was about to type that I'd find a detour route and here you are saying the same thing. It's positively unnerving! If you're like this with lottery numbers, I'll let you know when I'm ready to buy a ticket!

In the middle of the day, you are driving down a rural road, on which yours appears to be the only car. The road has one lane going in each direction with deep ditches on both sides of it. At a distance, you see the longest snake you've ever seen stretching across the entire road. You are driving slowly enough that you can easily stop before reaching the snake.

Do you stop to allow the snake to cross the road or do you drive over it?

Had this exact thing happen, many, many years ago! I wasn't driving, only a passenger and about 14 yrs. old.
Was along for a drive in the country with family friends. We came upon a HUGE snake across the whole road, maybe 5-6 inch diameter.
The guy driving was excited for the challenge ahead. He stepped on the gas, drove over the snake once (big bumpy feeling as I recall), backed up, drove over it again, and probably did it a few more times before we drove off.
I couldn't bring myself to turn around and look.

Yikes! I'd have nightmares, Bonnie. Must have been pretty big to feel a bump.
