To my ears, today's songs are not that at all. Please don't ask me for my definition. Not fit for human eyes or ears.
Lois, I do understand what you mean, But some lyrics of even the newer songs do tell a story about today. Society sure it isn't what we knew, but it was starting to change then.
Marie, these old ears have heard so many of the many generational society songs that, I don't think I can take one more. But, that's me. Just let me relax and listen to the birds and babbling brooks, breezes blowing and waves hitting the shores. I am then a very happy camper. I was such a complicated individual in my youth, but those days are over.
Odd that we don't have more songs promoting positive aspects of our retirement years. Certainly there is a market. Certainly there are aging writers, singers, and musicians. Even the younger set should be interested in performing for the return value, even if they rely on experienced writers for the content/lyrics. I can even see comedy bits being popular and profitable. For example the trials and tribulations of a retirement marriage of convenience taking advantage of coordinating health coverage, married tax filing advantage, lower expenses of shared living vs. separate places, etc. "That Dirty Old Man Wants More, I know It" "She Hid My Damned Glasses Last Night" "When I Fall You'd Damned Well Better Get Me Up" "Snores Like A Buzz Saw, Farts Like A Cow" "Stop Shining That Dollar Store Urn Baby, I Ain't Ready Yet"
