Why Is Ice Slippery? "Some studies suggest that friction from a moving shoe, skate or tire causes the heat necessary to melt the ice beneath it. But what if the shoe isn't moving at all? A second theory proposes that ice inherently has a fluid layer, caused by the motion of surface molecules that have nothing above to bind to and so move around in search of stability. The slippery culprit may be a combination of these two theories".
"It is sometimes said that the sound the bumblebees make while sonicating anthers is Middle C (C4) at 262 Hz. Is is also said that the the wing beat frequency of a bumblebee is 200 Hz. That would translate to a sound of 400 Hz (one compression on each of the upstroke and downstroke of the wing) which is close to A4 (440Hz) on a piano".
I just found this thread, and I think it's a lot of fun and thought provoking. But question #25 got totally overlooked. Now I admit it brings yucky visions to the fore, but I want to know if it's true, and if so, WHY. @Shirley Martin are you pulling our legs, "again". I like your sense of humor, sometimes you can really get us going. Have you seen this?
@Ina I. Wonder , a cat eats a mouse from the head first so that he can have the tail to pick his teeth.
Got me good!!! @Shirley Martin Why is it that when we get old enough to know better, it's generally too late to do better?
I know my faults, just have no plan to change them. No faults. No fun!! At this age, people will forgive our faults. If they only knew.......
@Ina I. Wonder - learnt a lot over the past 10 years, I'm definitely older and wiser Ina There's nothing I would change now emotionally and my character was set at a very early age
I wish I could change being too sensitive and adopt an I don't give a crap attitude. I'm working on it.... Not with loved ones of course, just on the internet. It does help.
