My son uses only raised beds. I think he has eight that are about 4 feet by 10 or 12 feet. I'm amazed at the things he can raise there.

I used to have raised beds but we finally took them down a couple of years ago. I grew a lot of good stuff in them.

Yeah, ours were mostly made of wood, and slugs were laying eggs between the soil and the border material. Slugs are not native here, but we mistakenly brought them in with some nursery material we bought at Wal-Mart. Onion maggots also appeared after we bought sets from the same place. We no longer buy stuff from box stores, and the maggot problem is almost gone. We have reduced the slug issue by removing the beds, but they are still very much an issue. We have about an acre of cultivated space, so we cannot fit it onto our patio. Besides, that area is reserved for the wife's flowers.

If slugs are a problem, sprinkle salt all around the outside of the garden spot. If they crawl through it, they will die.

2D02C349-2016-4F14-BDA7-C5620917AF8B.jpeg I just took this photo of my raised garden bed hubby made completely from scratch ….I’m having trouble with blossom rot on the tomatoes which is disappointing after raising the plants from seed ,they also got fairly burned from a sudden hot spell we had the temps went up from the low 20’s ( about 75f ) to over 100 f in one day lasted 4 days .

Were they the small cucumbers? I think Yvonne has grown the small melon cucumbers.

Kate, get some Epsom salt, mix a tablespoon (I think) of it with a gallon of water and spray the plant. Pour some around the roots, too.

Yes, I use it on my potted tomatoes every year. It really works.
