My SIL (wife's oldest sister) is like Lon Tanner (RIP, Lon). She is renting a 2-bedroom apartment and paying somewhat over $3,000 a month for it. She is renting out her condo to pay for the apartment (rent-to-own). She sort of brags about the things she gets, like free meals (as long as she's at the complex at the right times), maid service, etc., but that's why she pays as much as she does. She hasn't lived in an apartment since 2000! Currently, she is very happy, but..........we'll see how it goes. One thing for sure, she can no longer have her granddaughter live with her, as she did before while the granddaughter was in college. The granddaughter still has another year, but will have to do classes on her laptop and drive several miles to college. The complex is a 55 Plus and they allow nobody that is under that age.
