It's different for me and you Beth. I wanted that cancerous breast off of me so bad that if I could have cut it off myself I would have. I never felt it would make me feel less than whole, but maybe that's because I have had my tonsils out, my gallbladder, a complete hysterectomy...and the wonderful fact that that my Honey is a butt man and not a breast one. I am still me no matter what happens with my body...and you will still be you Beth. Nothing can change that unless you allow it to do so.
Well Babs, you are double lucky. Lucky because your old man is a butt admirer and also lucky that cancer didn't take it down. Cancer took my butt down to the skeleton, so I am lucky I didn't have a guy with a butt fetish. I could never get a guy with a breast fetish as I never had much in that dept. Cancer terminated my membership in the Boobless Babes with Booty club.
Luckily for me, my husband doesn't worship any of my body parts; he just seems to like having me around for some reason. I must say, he has been a godsend (even more than he usually is) since I got home. He gave me a shower yesterday, including washing my skimpy hair and changing the dressings on my surgical wounds. Each day he "strips" the plastic tubes into the drains I have attached to my body (so creepy), records the amount of fluid, and updates the spreadsheet for my doctor. He has done laundry, picked up carryout meals, and generally been the best help I could have wished for. Today our oldest daughter sent a delivery of Mexican food (fajitas) from our favorite restaurant for our dinner. Tomorrow my sister-in-law is sending red beans and rice, sausage and cornbread for supper. I got flowers from my sons. This has been a week of many blessings for me, including all the well wishes from SoC pals... and I appreciate each one so much.
Sounds like you’re going to be SOOOOO spoiled by the time ya completely heal up! Good for you Beth. Being the good soldier you’ve been, I think you deserve a little spoiling !!
You could maybe slip your oncologist a few extra bucks to stretch the recuperation time….jus sayin’ Edit: Just don’t get caught dancing a jig when you think no one is looking…
You are very fortunate that he has the stomach for such things. I know many men who couldn't strip fluid from the lines and such without heaving.
Well, this was goofy. I've had this little square thing with a "knob" in the center on the back of my right shoulder since surgery. I've showered three times and hadn't paid much attention to it, but today I was looking in the mirror and asked my husband if it was a bandage or what. We hadn't been putting any of the ointment on it and I was curious about what the heck it is. He took a picture of it with my phone and I called the triage nurse to ask about it, then sent him the photo. Turns out it was an EKG lead! Apparently they missed it when taking me out of surgery. (I hope the surgeon's tools are all accounted for!!) So my hubby peeled it off and used an alcohol wipe to clean the adhesive off. Today I'm pretty sore; one rib really hurts when I cough. All the velcro closures on the surgical camisole and drains are scratchy and irritating. I'm supposed to keep my right arm elevated as much as possible which makes my shoulder and armpit ache. I'm pretty whiny. I sent hubby over to his sister's tonight to play dominoes. Lord knows he can use a break.
Not sure. I see the plastic surgeon on August 3rd and I hope he will remove the drains at that time. They are the biggest irritation at this point, and have to be below a certain "output" for 2 days in a row before they are removed.
You whine all you want to, as long as you're still here with us...that's all that matters. And you are certainly entitled (not that you need anyone's permission.)
Well, ok. I'll whine about all the tape residue all over me. WTF did they use so much tape for?? All on my face, I assume from the breathing tube thing. Even my eyes were taped shut! I had one IV that made my hand and fingers puff up, so they moved it higher up my arm... so my arm and hand have tape residue plus IV battle scars and raw skin where they pulled the tape off. I have three sores on my mouth, I guess when they pulled the tape off my lips it removed skin as well. Those are kind of like cold sores. I expected to have a sore throat from the breathing tube but I was spared that! I think I'm done now. Maybe.
