I got the garage cabinet cleaned and reorganized. Somehow it looks the same as when I started so how the heck does that happen?? At least there's a little more space since the Goodwill purge.

Speaking of Goodwill... my husband drove over there to unload the stuff and apparently there were a couple of cars in line. He had to wait on a cart thing to unload and a lady walked up and asked him if he was donating the stuff. He said yes, and she asked if she could look it over. He said of course; he didn't care who got it--just wanted to get rid of it.

A Goodwill employee walked out and said, "this is not allowed; once the stuff is on Goodwill property it belongs to Goodwill." (Most of it was still in the Jeep.) My husband said fine, he just wanted to get rid of it. :p Anyway, the employee said she would allow it "just this once" so the other woman ended up taking EVERY SINGLE THING out of the Jeep.

My husband said she was absolutely thrilled to get everything and kept thanking him. He said he was glad someone got the stuff who seemed to appreciate it, so all's well that ends well.

Not much going on lately that's worthy of a diary entry. :p Pretty much just normal day-to-day stuff that is fine with me. I'm a big fan of "normal and boring" these days.

I decided to have the Covid vaccine so we're headed over to Houston Methodist Hospital in a few minutes. I'm neutral on the efficacy of the vaccine but if it will help me to possibly have a milder case then why not? I want to get out of the house more and plan a trip to go see my sister before we get too old to travel, and there's no sign of the Covid mess letting up.

My husband had the vaccines several months ago because he does all our errand running and is over at his mom's a lot. The only issue we have had with the vaccines is the pressure to force people to have them; I maintain that each individual should be able to decide for themselves what will be injected into their body.

I've recently developed a "flasher" in the corner of my right eye that is bugging me. I read that it can be nothing or it could possibly signal the beginning of macular degeneration or other retinal problems, or possibly a precursor to a stroke... so I want to have it checked ASAP. Plus, I haven't had an eye exam in over 2 years so I need to update my glasses Rx and see how my cataracts are progressing. Hopefully I can get an appointment one day this week.

I put a pot roast into the crockpot earlier so dinner is simmering away. The house already smells wonderful. Guess I'll toss a load of towels in the wash and see about dusting something.

I still need to take few things to Goodwill. Like the men's suit my husband wore twice to funerals in 2009!

I am beginning to be annoyed by my "senior moments." What the heck?? About a month ago I bought a new pair of jeans, washed them, and folded them and placed them on the bench at the foot of the bed. A couple of days ago the daytime high was around 40 so jeans weather at last! Well. Perfect except the jeans are nowhere to be found. I mean... nowhere. I have turned the house upside-down, gone through the dirty clothes basket, checked the washer and dryer, checked the hubby's jean pile... you name it. The only thing I can think of is that they somehow made their way into the Goodwill Donations Pile and have been hauled away. SIGH

Today I decided to drag the Macbook Air out and use it for a while, see if it needs updates, etc. It is deader than a doornail so I looked around for the charging cord. You guessed it. NOWHERE to be found. It used to always be plugged into a powerstrip behind my bedside table but suddenly... it isn't. After over an hour of frustrating searching every random drawer in the house, I just ordered a 3rd party charging cord from Amazon. I'm not paying Apple $75 for that.

The retinal bleed thing in my right eye is so annoying. I get these occasional "flashes" of white light in the inside corner of my eye, and sometimes what appears to be a bubble floats into my line of sight. Not sure how long this will go on; I suppose the ophthalmologist can give me more info in a month when I go back to have it checked.

@Beth Gallagher - about 20 years ago, I started having what I called the Neon Light show. A eye doctor friend of ours was concerned it was detached retina. But the neurologist said no- they are called silent migraine headaches. There were times it would get bad enough I would have to stop what I was doing, could not see good. Over the years they just stopped, why I do not know. I also had floaters-2 or 3. Anyway, annoying but hopefully nothing to be feared at this point.
Oh and i do some misplacing of things myself at times. its what we old people do:(

It took me forever to find the above quote. (In another thread)

I had that in both eyes maybe 10+ years ago, a year apart. It can cause white flashes in the corner of your eye. Not saying that's what's causing yours, but it might be.

The flashes don't go away completely, but get less noticeable as time goes by. Or maybe one just learns to ignore them. It happens to me mostly at night, when there is a bright light, like walking under a streetlight or driving the car. My doctor said not to worry about them, if that is the cause. It's just light reflecting off of junk in your eye. o_O

Thanks, Nancy. The doctor said the vitreous sac detachment is common in "older" people, but the bleed in my eye is not. He said it may be that the sac detaching had torn a small capillary and it will eventually self-repair and the blood will be absorbed back into my body. So he wants to check it again in about a month to make sure it isn't getting worse, which will require a possible surgical intervention...ack. I believe @John Brunner has the VS detachment, too.

I was disappointed to hear that my cataracts are still small and not bad enough for surgery.

Gloria--I had the "prisms" in my side vision a few years ago. The doctor at that time said it was nothing to worry about and also said it was a type of migraine that doesn't involve headache. Last week I had a white "flash" in the inner corner of my right eye and I went to the eye doctor; she found a bleed in that eye and sent me to a retinal specialist as an "emergency." Of course that scared me half to death, but the specialist said it was not threatening my vision (pointing at the dozens of photos of the inside of my eyeball), so we will check it again in a month and go from there.

Update: Amazon delivered the replacement charger for my MacBook an hour ago. I just found the original charger in a drawer in the spare bedroom. What the heck. o_O

Now if my husband shows up wearing my new jeans, I can make peace with my memory issues.

I first discovered that I had a detached vitreous sac when I was 56 years old in 2010. I don't recall if symptoms drove me to the eye doctor or if I needed to get new glasses and decided that a complete exam was in order and it was "just discovered." Apparently it can take forever for a detached VS to settle to the bottom of the eye so that it is completely out of the field of vision...11 years later and I still get the occasional glimpse of it. I've been to the ophthalmologist every year since then, and the VS in my other eye just detached a few months ago (at age 67.)

The "upside" to having a detached sac is that the condition qualifies the exams for Medicare, so I apply my [marginal] eye insurance benefits to new glasses when I need them (I'm on a biannual schedule.)

Some time ago I lost the jet attachment for my air compressor. I could not find it anywhere, so I finally broke down and bought one at Lowes. I had to ask for help finding it, and told the woman who helped me "Since I'm buying this, the other one will show up." Sure enough. I even remember why I put it there. Now I got 2.

I just commented that my first VS detached in 2010 and it still sometimes causes weird vision issues. I forget how long it takes these things to finally settle down to the bottoms of our eyes. My other one just detached a couple of months ago. My eye doctor said that a cleanly detached VS reduces (eliminates?) the chances of a detached retina, since it's the hanging VS that can tug at things if it does not detach cleanly.

    Crazy, isn't it?

And speaking of miraculous, they can even take pics to see the health of your eyes' blood vessels.

Dunno if that's my right eye or my left eye.

If your hubs shows up wearing your jeans, please send him to Oregon. Our powder puff nandy pandy male count has dropped to 89%. :D

Also if those bleeds don't reabsorb, they can be lasered out. I had that done in both eyes and it took care of it. Nothing to laser surgery except holding your head still.

I lost my only brother in August 2020 to cancer; he was diagnosed in July and died in August. My sister-in-law's birthday is this week so I called to talk to her a bit. When the answer machine came on it was my brother's voice and I broke down; couldn't even leave a message.

I'm so glad she hasn't changed that recording.

I can understand. I still have my brother's number and email address in my contacts lists, and occasionally come across (and read) messages we've sent back & forth.

Too few good people in this world. They deserve to be missed lots when they're gone.
