My wake sleep is so off kilter I don't know what to do. I would like to be able to go to bed and go right to sleep at 11 PM and get up at 7 AM. Instead I have been going to bed at 8 to 8:30 PM and never really go to sleep. Get up at 2AM and lay in my recliner then go back to bed at 3 AM. Get up an shower at 5:30 AM. Take several mini naps in my recliner during the day.

Taking a 20 minute walk after dinner would help.

Don't do it close to bedtime.

Actually, Beth, when she asked him about an OTC sleep aid, he was really against them and didn't offer any kind of prescription one, probably due to addiction to them. This happened during her last computer video appointment, with me sitting in the living room and listening. Anyway, tv is an "essential" in her life, up until 9:30/10:00PM. When she does remember (note: "does remember) to put on the glasses, she will do it a couple of hours before we turn the tv off.

We've talked about that, but, lately, after dinner, she can be so tired, she couldn't do a walk anyway.

My own personal theory is............she just shouldn't be working a full-time job anymore. Other than 1/2 hour for lunch, she's looking at two computer screens for most of the 8 hours she is working.

From my research online, many-to-most Seniors at 72, aren't working a full-time job. The money she is getting is great, but the "mind stress" and "lack of sleep" definitely isn't great.

Don't know if a new 3" Memory Foam Topper would help, but right now, got to try whatever. Neither the glasses or the OTC sleep aids are helping, so Topper would be next.

Magnesium glycinate at bedtime seems to help my wife with the same problem. Melatonin is said to help as well.

Eight hours at computer screens and then add the hours of TV screening to that too...I think that's a big part of the not sleeping so well problem for your wife Cody.

Take a walk before dinnertime. I'm the same way after I eat...I am nuthin' but a doorstop. But sitting all day long only makes one mentally tired.

ps: If it works, let me know. I might try it ;)

I have found that exercise really helps me to sleep good, and sound sleep all night long usually. The days that we go to the fitness center and I swim for an hour, I can barely stay awake until even 8PM, and as soon as my head hits the pillow, I am sound asleep.
I also take magnesium at night as well as melatonin, about a half hour before bedtime, and both of those help me to have a good night’s sleep also.

Another thing that I have noticed that affects my sleep , is what i have eaten and when I eat it. if I have a heavy supper, or a late one then I have trouble sleeping because the protein keeps me awake. I also do not sleep well if I do not eat, and I went to bed hungry. Then, it wakes me up during the night because my stomach is grumbling for food.
So, I usually eat my main meal about mid-day, and then a light dinner meal around 4-6 pm, and that keeps me from being either too hungry or too full at bedtime.
Of course, we have that Sleep Number bed that Robin gave us, and it is the most wonderful bed ever; so there is that, too.

Benedryl makes some people hyper and some people sleepy. Many use the little caplets as a nighttime aid for a better sleep.

Well, as long as she is doing this "at-home" job, using two computer screens, nothing we can do about that. As far as tv goes, she's a "tv addict" and loves it. Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune nightly. And, now, AGT (America's Got Talent) and To Tell The Truth.

What can I say, the lady loves sound, from the tv, even if she's not watching tv. Unlike myself, she was raised with a brother and two sisters. So, their household was always active, where mine sure wasn't.

Here is a few things to consider calcium deficiency can make going to sleep hard. the old warm milk might help.
Low blood sugar will cause some one to wake up in the middle of the night
Older men having to get up to pee probably prostate enlargement
If outside noises bother you put on white noise to counter it and find music at 432 hertz or the earth frequency.
Learn a mantra when going to sleep like [day by day I am getting better and better and repeat it twenty times or more it just might clear your mind for sleep

Warm milk also contains L-Tryptophan, an amino acid that helps you sleep.
