That is sad. We in the south are just not accustomed to driving in snow and ice. We got a lot of snow out of this last storm. There was a foot of snow at RDU. Our road was covered. Early yesterday morning, I saw a car go by going way too fast. It looked like he was going 50 MPH. I had to wonder what was so important that he had to go to town under those conditions. The weather people had been telling us for four days to get prepared. I also wondered why he didn't go slower.

Brings back memories @Holly Saunders , love the snow but not when it turns to slush ...

11.30pm and it' still 29.6c ... another sleepless night, or probably just stay up and nod off in me chair , often happens, then I'll have a nanna nap tomorrow

I lived in the French Quarter in New Orleans for nearly 20 years and I was trying to remember if I experienced any really, really cold days that produced ice or snow and I can't. I can remember it dropping below freezing but it was short lived with no repercussions that I can think of.
People around there are just not used to traveling in icy conditions. Pas Tete Bete.

No, the South is not used to having that kind of weather and we don't even have the equipment on or for our vehicles to help either.

I'm really glad over here that our local Government and schools, etc. don't hesitate to close everything they can so no one is out on the roads except those who have no choice.

It looks like we might be starting to ease into spring out here........YAY ! ! I noticed that we have some hyacinth and tulips starting to sprout, and the iris have been trying , regardless of the cold weather.
Tomorrow is supposed to be 65 here, and I am thinking that I can go outside and really see what might be sprouting already. The 10-day forecast shows mostly high 50’s to mid-60’s for the daytime temps and much warmer nights as well.
Being spring, we could always revert to cold and snow again, but hopefully, the worst of the winter weather is over for this year.

Tulips already @Yvonne Smith ?...I haven't even seen a daffodil yet and they grow here before Tulips.....we've had a few sunny days but not warm enough for the ice to melt... , and when I collected the dry cleaning today the woman at the shop told me the forecast is for much colder weather for the next week...oooh Joy... !

We have had an unusually warm winter and barely any rain. The local ski resorts in the mountains are closed...because when there's no rain in Fresno, there's no snow in the mountains.

It's going to affect the spring melt off also which we depend on here....there won't be any and I'm afraid we're going into another drought year. :(

We do not have tulips with blossoms, Holly. these are just the little green tops peeking upout of the ground just far enough for me to see that it looked like a tulip leaf. It will be a while yet before we actually get plants large enough for flowers, and that is going to depend on how well the warmer spring weather lasts.

You guys can't be talking about tulips or daffodils in a snowing thread. How am I supposed to feel? I could have a sunflower in my back yard and it wouldn't reach the top of the snow cover.
