Yes @Kate Ellery, I too find myself jumping for the mute button, and I watch a lot of fix it shows too. I almost sold my home so I could move to a safer small town of 8,000. In a city of 2&1/2 million, I had become a sitting duck for the thieves in the area, and I was at risk of being a home invasion casualty. But I lucked out and one of my grandsons decided we could make good room mates. We have no problem giving each other space, and it a big house. Actually Bobert does more cooking than I do. I fix him a couple of fancy meals a month, and he's happy. It's not safe for anyone to try living alone around here.
We are not bad here where we are @Ina I. Wonder ,we are two hours from the city ,(Adelaide ) our area has several small towns in a cereal growing area .,so not allot of crime ..however the city is another story
You are luck @Kate Ellery, when we bought our home we were in the countryside. But Houston has been in continual growth for over 40 years, and now I am surrounded by the city. So of course crime is rampant, what with gangs, little moral compasses, it doesn't surprise me that family violence is at an all time high.
I just heard on the 10:00 news that an 88 year old woman who lived alone was confronted by a man that had broken into her house, who then ransacked her home for anything of value, But she was able to talk the intruder out of raping her by tell him that she had HIV, and rhat her husband had died of aids. Smart lady, and still quick thinking.. But I do wonder what goes through the mind of someone who wants to abuse elderly people, much less rape one. Is it like the opposite of pedophilia? I wonder if they have a name this?
There was a time when I just couldn't listen to news.....I had to take a break from domestic abuse, drive by shootings, kids dying in hot cars... But it never really stops.
@Frank Sanoica ??? ...(sigh)... Look again. I didn't say or imply "that time has passed". In fact, I said it (bad news) never stops. (Not that complicated)
