Spam is one of those things I might get a taste for every few years...like fried bologna.

As others have said...it's gotta be fried. I'll eat corned beef right out of the can and onto the bread , but not Spam.

I like it but I prefer the Turkey variety now.

I tasted all 15 flavors of Spam,
and there's only one that beats the original

I read your comment, Al, and thought "It can't be that bad."

Then I read the label. Yeh, it's that bad.

You get 25% or more of the recommended Daily Value of fat, sat. fat and sodium in a "single serving," which is only 2 ounces! We both know that once the can is opened, you and I are not gonna just slice off 1/6 of it and put the rest in the fridge.

I wonder if frying it renders out some of the fat or adds to it.

Same here. Fried, by itself, or mixed in with fried potatoes and eggs. I think it lasts for quite a while too, so it would make sense to have some around.

As part of our “just in case” stocking up, I bought some spam and other canned meats, too. I eat mainly vegetarian, so most of my protein is from legumes, with some meat and fish (mostly as a flavor enhancer), but the spam is great for adding to soups like bean soup. It does not take much to flavor the pot of beans.
We also use it both cooked and not cooked for sandwiches, but since it has so much salt and bad fats, this is not something that I do very often. We have tried some of the newer flavors, but to me, just the plain old-fashioned spam is better than the new ones.

I haven't even felt the need to try any of the new flavors. Spam is supposed to taste like spam. Although I grew up on a farm, where my father would raise pigs for meat (although I was oblivious to that until I thought back on it when I was in my 30s), and most everyone in the family (except me) hunted, we still had spam from time to time.

I buy a can now & then ..... I like it but the fat content is something of concern.

I have tried the bacon flavored variety, it does resemble bacon.
