Thanks Holly and a very BIG thank-you to all of you that wish me a speedy recovery..
I am sure everything will be OK and I have 100% confidence in my surgeon..
He did do my other shoulder in October of 2010 and today it is very satisfactory.. No pain and almost no restrictions.. With my left arm I can lift a full 20 pound propane tank (about 35 pounds) and walk across the street with it.. Hopefully the right arm will be like that in due time.......

You are having rotator cuff surgery? That's what I had on both shoulders (one surgery on each), due to two falls. Do you have a fully torn rotator cuff tendon or tendons?

Anyway, before I continue with this post, I need to know if it is rotator cuff surgery your getting.

    Cody............... NO !!!

I am having a total replacement surgery..
I had that on my other shoulder in 2010 and today I am almost just as good as normal..
They actually amputate my arm from the body and replace the ball and socket with an implant..

@Steve North "replace the ball and socket with an implant.
Brings up a question. Is the upper arm bone adequately hollow, like the Femur of the leg, allowing insertion of a shaft which is part of the ball?

it is now just after 6:00 am and I was in a deep sleep till the pain woke me up.. I just took 2 pain killers and I am waiting for them to start working in about another 15 or so minutes at which point I will go back to sleep for another while.......
There is rain coming in today and I wonder if that has anything to do with my sudden extreme pain...
It could also be that I am off my anti-inflammatory pills which would help.. Off of them as they contain a blood thinner which is not good before the operation.......

I am glad that the operation will be happening soon, @Steve North , and then you have the healing process to go through. At least you know what to expect since you have already had this done with your other shoulder. I am sure that the anti-inflammatory meds were helping a lot, since inflammation is what usually causes pain.

No, his other shoulder had rotator cuff surgery done, not a total replacement like he is going to have now.

My other shoulder had a total replacement as well..
It was done in October of 2010 in sault Ste. Marie by the same doctor that will be doing the right one..

Cody.. I have NO idea where you got that rotor cuff business as I have NEVER had that..
A total replacement of the ball and socket is what I had and is what I am having done ....

    Tuesday is the big day..

I don't expect to be able to open up the computer and type for at least 4 weeks..
I will try however, but no promises.. My wife will come on here to keep you up to date on my condition..

We will all await word from up north on this. I am especially interested insofar as I have ongoing pain not easily explained, in both shoulders. Sometimes it's intense, other times it's less, allowing movement of my elbow up higher than usual.

I don't feel it is wise to compare one person's malady directly to another's, as related to rotator cuff vs other shoulder malfunction. I am in no position either knowledgeably, medically, nor via experience, to consider merit of medical care or it's provided pronouncements. I feel many folks should think about this. Frank
