When I was recovering from surgery back in '95 I watched every Iowa game, every Green Bay game and all the Chicago Blackhawk hokey game. My oldest son lived in the apartment next to mine then and he had no TV. So, he came to my place to watch all the games and drink all my beer.
WOW, Great food Bonnie!! Okay, SuperBowl Prediction Recap so far… Ina predicts a Broncos win 28-21 Bonnie predicts a Panthers win 21-16 Lara predicts a Panthers win 24-20 Sheldon predicts a Panthers win 31-17 Chrissy predicts a Panthers win 24-20
Uh @Lara Moss , I really don't have any reason to think that the Panthers are quite that bad. I mean that would be a bad run. That was 28 to 21 for me. And nothing says you can't go with the odds, so your not disqualified. This is war .... I mean fun, right?
Cameras for the game this year are going to be very advanced.. http://www.wired.com/2016/01/the-cameras-thatll-make-the-super-bowl-way-more-interesting-this-year/
@Ina I. Wonder , I fixed the typo, thanks for the heads up Oh, and I will accept your invitation to stake claim to "my" prediction…thank you @Sheldon Scott I've added your prediction above! We have a lot of Panthers fans but I know the Bronco fans will be weighing in soon enough @Bonnie Thomas , you just helped to make watching the game 100% more interesting because I'll be watching for the advanced techno enhancements and be able to appreciate them!! They sound totally amazing. I can't wait now. Things are getting exciting!!
Thanks for the link @Bonnie Thomas. I understood more of that than than I do about football. Here's the start of my ignorant questions. 1. What is a first down? 2. Does a second down have the same criteria as the first? 3. How many downs are there? 4. I have noticed scoring can happen in points of 2, 3, and 7, WHY? I'll start with those questions. Told you I haven't a clue. Sorry
Okay Chrissy, I added you on. Anyone can change their mind at any time before the game starts. Just let me know. Ina predicts Broncos will win………....28-21 Bonnie predicts Panthers will win…..21-16 Lara predicts Panthers will win……...24-20 Sheldon predicts Panthers will win…31-17 Chrissy predicts Panthers will win….24-20
@Ina I. Wonder , you asked what a first and second down are and how many...here you go... Downs are like chances to gain 10 yards. That's why the field is measured in yards. The offensive team (the team with the ball) tries to get as much yardage as it can to try and move closer to the opponent's end zone (which is where they head to make their touchdown). Each time the offense gets the ball, it has four downs, or chances, in which to gain 10 yards or more. Their first try is called "first and 10". The offensive team must gain 10 yards in order to keep the ball. Meanwhile the defensive team tries to stop them from getting any yardage. I remember a cheer in H.S. "first and ten, do it again" but I digress If the offense only advances the ball 2 yards on first down then their status would be "second and 8". They then play the second down, another chance to get 8 more yards to add up to 10. There are 4 downs, in an NFL game. If the offensive team advances the ball at least 10 yards in four tries (plays) or fewer, the team receives another set of four downs. If the offense has failed to advance 10 yards after three tries, the team usually punts the ball on the fourth down to the opponent. The other team then begins with its own set of four downs, traveling in the opposite direction.
Lara explained your questions well. I attended a Football 101 clinic held by the Texans, for women. ..went two different years. It's a fun way to meet players and get some freebies .. shirts, etc. That shirt has been signed, over the years, by 28 players on the team ..past and present, and Toro) Toro is the team mascot. Anyway... Touchdown = 6 points Extra Point = 1 point Two-Point Conversion = 2 points Field Goal = 3 points Safety= 2 points (tackling the opponent in his own end zone) On 4th down, they can 'go for it', or most of the time, teams will punt the ball away. It gives the ball to the other team, but also pushes the ball back further for them to get a chance at getting to the end zone and scoring.
