Okay, first of all, you Brits need to get a grip on the language -- maybe an English as a first language course. You people have no idea how to speak English. There are plenty of people here who wear suspenders, including some younger people, but that didn't include me until recently. As for hats, I don't wear them often but when I do, I will generally leave it on. Sorry. If I take it off at a restaurant, I will forget it. At church, no, but I wouldn't take it with me there.
