OMG!!! I was trimming my broccolini plants this morning and LOOK what I found!!! There are about a dozen small heads scattered among the leaves. Also found some poblano peppers; there are 3 on this plant--this big one and a couple of babies... And the bell peppers are ripening to RED.
Today I harvested bell peppers. The 2 plants in a garden were doing great but suddenly this morning looked kind of peaked. Droopy leaves, just generally sad-ish. So I decided to go ahead and harvest the peppers, R&R the garden, and give the plants a trim both above and below the water line. I went a little drastic with the trimming so I might have finished them off, but we'll see. At any rate, I will be dicing these and putting them in the freezer.
I would be amazed too. In winter I spend lots of time in the woods, since I am so far from family and friends.
All the Aerogardens in the dining room are sitting dark and empty. I got them all cleaned out and left them in "dry dock" for a while. I only have one AG in operation, growing Red Robin cherry tomatoes in the kitchen. I have no plans to start any new gardens until this fall; I just need a break from all of it.
I'm beginning to sort through my seed collection and plan a few gardens for the fall. I want to rearrange some things and not have so many active gardens to care for, but I always get overly enthusiastic and overdo it. I'm really glad I didn't have a dining room full of active Aerogardens when our power was out for almost 2 weeks. What a mess that would have been.
I finally got some AGs planted. I'm starting out with two types of tomatoes, 2 types of cucumbers, banana peppers, bok choy, salad mix lettuces, parsley, green onions and tatsoi. I've been sifting through my seed box and may try some flowers in one garden. I'm also going to pack away some of the inactive AGs and see if my kids want any of them. If not I'll have them as backups.
Wish I could send you some of my impatiens cuttings. Just rooted a few for winter but will have to let most of them die. They are beautiful right now and do well in the house if you can keep down the bugs like spider mites.
@Yvonne Smith 's post about the doggie clippers from Woot! reminded me of a good deal for Aerogarden Bounty Basic models. For the next 3 days they are $99 ($180 on the AG website). https://www.woot.com/offers/aerogarden-bounty-basic-indoor-garden-16 I bought one as a "spare" and sent one to my son. I'm going to send him my seed starter tray for that garden so he can plant seeds for his outside garden next spring.
Well, this was a surprise. Apparently AeroGarden is going out of business. Got this in an email today... "Dear Valued AeroGarden Customer, We are saddened to announce the closing of AeroGarden effective January 1, 2025. This was a difficult decision, but one that became necessary due to a number of challenges with this business. First, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your loyalty and support. Second, we intend to wind down operations in a manner that will inspire you to enjoy indoor gardening through the holiday season and beyond."
Well, we would not want us to have access to healthful food if Kamala is elected, now would we? If you have a south facing window, you can grow stuff au naturelle. Just need to turn the planter. Not as clean and easy but do-able.
