I'm getting more educated on the "push" for everyone to drive EV's and last night on Frank Sontag I learned more. It all sounds so easy breezy, just buy an EV and your life will be so much better.[IMG]

Just ask the Govt know it alls, and the EV's are the answer....Just need $50-60K at least up front and plenty of:

Lithium, Manganese, Cobalt, Nickel and Graphite

And use your EV for just around town, have that 2nd vehicle for longer trips.:headbang:

Once enough people have spent their fortunes on electric vehicles, they'll tax them by the mile and electric vehicle owners will be paying as much as they did on gas, or more.

Yep, wearing shoes made all from petroleum products manufactured by Chinese coal-fired factories belching out pollution at a rate 1000 times any other nation on earth.

I am thinking about replacing my carpet with a high static producing material. As it is, I can scuff my feet across my carpet and shoot a 1/4th inch spark to the door knob while reaching out to open it. I am thinking of designing a device that I can discharge my electricity into instead of it being wasted.

I'm worried that if I have an EV in my attached garage and the battery bursts into fire as they sometimes do, my house will burn down.

Yes, and the electric-powered fire engine might still be on charge. Sorry about your bad luck! The thing is we must all be willing to make sacrifices to make this brave new world, doused in lunacy, a reality.

On the way home, the guy on a car talk show said that relatives ask to charge their electric cars at his home while they're visiting and it costs about $7 per charge. While that's much less than gas stations with EV chargers charge, it's still a cost. Do relatives driving regular cars expect him to top off their tanks?

Virginia already charges you extra if your vehicle is too efficient.

This is only the intermediate step on the way to installing government tracking devices on all vehicles under the pretense of charging us per-mile-driven. The Dems have tried passing such legislation twice, and as we know, Totalitarians never give up.

The Maine legislature has already proposed a per-mile tax, but it didn't pass.

How did they propose to levy it? Virginia currently uses an Average Miles Driven and applies it across the board. That is their interim position.

Upon registration each year, car owners would provide their mileage and pay a tax on the number of miles driven the previous year.

We have an annual state inspection. A handful of congested counties require emissions tests biannually. The results somehow get reported to our DMV, since a passing test is a requirement for renewing your registration. So for those counties, a link already exists to report mileage every two years. I'll have to ask next time I'm in if they report any data for the regular safety inspection. I don't think the state has any idea if I pass or fail, except for the sticker (or lack thereof) on my windshield.

We also pay property tax on our vehicles every year, but the paperwork is filed at the county level. Mileage is not a required field on those forms.
