    1931 Chevrolet bookmobile auctioned off for $6050 in 2016. Books not included. Roughly 60 of these existed.

    I remember them. They came in our neighborhood but my parents forbid me from getting a book.

    Well, my dad coudn't read or write. It irritated him if anyone sat around
    and read very long. One of his pet says was,"If you've got an eighth
    grade education you've already got too much schooling." In his opinion
    the book mobile was a waste of time and money. Mom was afraid it
    might cost something and knowing how dad was, didn't want me to do
    anything that would rouse his anger, which was not difficult.

    My father could read well, but had to quit school after the 8th grade. There was still a negative attitude about education in general. More subtle. He tried not to fuss too much about it.
