There are butcher shops in every city or state probably and depending on the town, they can be quaint or modern looking. I just don't go to butcher shops anymore since I barely cook. I don't even look too much in the meat dept of my supermarket either. I have been to a butcher shop with my son in Edwardsville...think he bought a turkey there one year. Can't remember if the shop was quaint or not though... I know California has quite a few mom and pop Mexican style butcher shops...

Yes we have meat markets, and we have deli shops... and we also have refrigerated Meat Vans selling cheaper meat on the markets... but nothing takes the place of the traditional butcher shop...for nostalgia as well as good meat... that said, I do like to go and buy meat fresh from the little shop on the nearest farm...can't get much fresher than that..lol I remember seeing pictures of those queues for meat during world war 2.. I never could understand why people queued for a ration of 2 ounces per person.. they should have all just become vegetarian..lol
