The people who went into the trades are doing much better than those with degrees in fields other than stem

Here's a Dumbest Generation story for you. We ordered delivery from a local Italian restaurant for dinner today. I was looking outside and noticed the delivery guy walking up our next door neighbor's driveway, so I opened the door and yelled "I think you should be over here!" He looked startled and changed course toward our house. I closed the front door to maintain "safe distancing" and walked to the den to tell my husband that our dinner was almost handed to the neighbors.

My husband went to the door to get the food, and the moron driver was standing there. The guy actually said "you just can't trust these GPS systems!" and my husband replied, "but you can trust the ADDRESS PLAINLY ON OUR HOUSE.":rolleyes::rolleyes: If I hadn't already paid a tip online, that idiot wouldn't have gotten one.

I just had a similar problem with Door Dash because they used a teen age driver they told me.
    They apologised and no charge

I think Americans must have a special problem. I recently bought a GFCI outlet for some work outside the house. It had instructions in several languages, then had a special warning. At the bottom in English it said, "For USA: Do not spray water directly into this outlet."

Kinda sorta the same thing at our house.
The dogs started barking and when I went to look out front to see what was going on (the dogs can see from the other side of the fence) I saw a young man getting into his car in front of our house.
I looked down and there on the porch was a big bag and when I picked it up it smelled like food.
There was a receipt on the outside with nothing else but the person’s name for whom we assumed the food really belonged to. No address, no business name....nada.

I could vaguely see through the bag and saw that it was from “Steak and Shake”. Now do note, the nearest Steak ‘n Shake is 5.1 miles away but Yvonne called them and told them what had happened. The gal on the speaker phone said that it was the fault of the delivery service (door dash I think) and told us to enjoy the free meal because even if the guy came back he wasn’t allowed to take it to the real address.
I have to admit that I did come close to opening the “tamper proof bag”” but nope, the guy showed back up and wanted the food back so I gave it to him and advised him that the food is undeliverable. He took it anyway without so much as a thank you or kiss this.

Now, about that time the manager of the restaurant called us back and when Yvonne reported what had transpired he sounded a little more than just concerned but he said he’d take care of it.

Basically, that’s the end of the story except that I still regret picking up that bag.
Not to sound too paranoid but I didn’t know the young guy who was getting into the car and I certainly should have been cautious enough to really examine the bag before snatching it off the porch.
Today’s temperament being what it is, it could have been a bomb.

Yes, it's a far cry from the WW2 generation, known as "The Greatest Generation".

In those days a boy became an adult before he was 21. Now a man doesn't become an adult until he's 40...and maybe never!

    @Beth Gallagher

A similar incident befell us. We came home to find a note that a Pest Control guy had sprayed the perimeter of our house in our absence! I happen to detest such process, and called the company. The supervisor insisted their workers were highly trained and capable individuals, as though spraying poison on our property was MY fault! I determined, as I had suspected, the service address was called out as 4474 XXXX COURT; our address is 4474 XXXX CIRCLE. I told the guy his highly trained help evidently cannot read street signs! At that, he shut up.

If someone's domicile was using 12 volts for all the circuits/ appliances/ lights, would it hurt them then ?

A friend out in the boonies set his home up with 12 volt frig, 12 volt tv, etc, and used wally's deep cycle batteries (12 volt), and an outside gas powered generator when needed to recharge the batteries. Worked perfect. When tornagoes or other caused power outages, his neigbors came over to watch his tv/ listen to his radio... and enjoy the company for a while.

Nope. 12-volts wouldn't hurt him, but the outlets mentioned were 20-amp, 115/120 volt.

I’m sure what @Hal Pollner is referring to is that during the war most boys were forced to grow up beyond their years. Even the kids who were too young and not eligible to enlist had to learn how to pull their weight when they were old enough to learn what to do.

Nowadays, there just isn’t the same amount of pressure for the last couple of generations to have to apply themselves and experience the realities of what it means to be an adult.
When 30 year old men are still living with mama and somehow it’s okay, where is the drive to do anything other than act like Peter Pan and never grow up?

When people talk about the "dumbest generation" I tend to think the following:

If we judge a cow for "her" ability to bake apple pie the cow will grow up thinking is the dumbest one around.

Personally, I didn’t take the thread name to mean anything other than how little the last two generations produced here in the U.S. know about certain realities.
It’s a given that their experience with technology is far greater than that of even the baby boomers but what of the rest of experiential and practical education that they have to have before striking out on their own?

As much as you hate the very word of any kind of socialism you must see that this generation is leaning more and more toward that direction which means to me that they know how to follow the golden goose and are hesitant through lack of knowledge to do anything else but follow.

An example of today's generation of understanding what has been taught goes something like this: A man goes into a donut shop and sees that donuts are 6 for a dollar. He asks the teenaged girl behind the counter for a half dozen donuts. She responds with the fact that they do not have one half dozen but they do have 6 for one dollar. Need I say more? This actually happened, but in a different shop with a different product.

Yes, they assume that they will be coddled by their Government, and not have anything to be responsible for. This is what Socialism will breed.....

Today's college graduates with a BA are almost as intelligent as a High School graduate in the 1950's.
