Von do you have yard dogs? Our dogs keep coons at bay, except for outside fence they do get into the trash now and then.
Today I took another possum for a ride. Someone had been stealing my eggs again if I didn't grab them because someone was sitting on them as I was leaving. It is not generally difficult to live trap critters except that I had lent out my light trap last fall so I have only this large heavy trap to use for raccoons and possums at the moment . The bait seems to be the same for raccoons, possums, woodchucks...half a peanut butter sandwich, a slice of apple with a little peanut butter on it or even an empty catfood can. Practice setting the trap a few time so you know how to release it safely a really good distance away. Put down some cardboard or newspaper in your trunk in case of dirt on the bottom of the trap?
Thank you for that's something I didn't know. As far as the smell there wasn't a lot in the bottle of urine so very little is in each container to give off a rank scent, plus the location is right at the alley. I really don't expect this idea to last too long.
Go to an archery center for FOX urine, if they don't have wolf. It reeeks! Be careful But it is from a predator. They might not like to share the same location.
It was chilly today but there was sunshine so I did some target practice today without the balloons. I broke down a cardboard box and extended it across an area where I see the raccoons travel most and at ground level. I wanted to see how far the bbs traveled from my back door. I missed it a few times but it reach beyond that point. (Too high) I kept lowering my aim until I finally hit it.The cartridge holds about 20 bbs and used them all in a matter of minutes not including the time to reset (used in place of a better adjective ). What I learned from today's lesson of handling the bb gun was not to aim at my line of sight but lower.
You could buy a cheap low-power laser sight and mount it on the BB gun. Then you could adjust it. And it would be sighted in for anyone who uses it. Amazon carries them for anywhere for $12 to $25 (link.) I'd have to see your gun to recommend the appropriate one that would mount securely.
I suggested the laser light because you don't have to worry about aiming. The BB will hit exactly where the pinpoint of light is shining.
