Do not take this as legal advice but, if my town required that I let the raccoons have their way with me, I would buy a live trap (well, I wouldn't have to because I already have two), and trap them anyhow. If there were a way to do so surreptitiously, I'd probably release them in front of the mayor's house in the dead of night. Otherwise, I'd drive them out of town. My experience has been that mayors and city council people don't care about problems that they don't see in their own neighborhoods. The downside is that if they crap inside of the live trap, the smell is awful.
The traps worked for us to relocate a pair of raccoons a couple of years ago, but I have to say that a metal trap with a live, snarling raccoon in it was something I was glad to let my husband deal with. I'm not sure I could have carried that thing around the house and loaded it into the Jeep by myself because of the weight combined with the lunging, snarling animal. So Von might not want to deal with that without help.
That's pretty funny. I was gonna recommend the exact same thing. Make sure there are no security cameras around.
These are very quiet air rifles w/night scopes. If I lived closer, I'd come over & help. They spread disease, and I'm surprised they have not found a way in to some of the occupied homes in the neighborhood.
I guess you could get the addresses of all the city council folks, live trap your raccoons, then release them in those neighborhoods. Soon there would be an ordinance addressing the issue. Again, watch for security cameras and wear a mask so you don't catch Covid.
Do you know someone who has one of these? See if they will let you borrow it. Shoot the raccoon after you get it in a trap. You can pick the right spot and do an instant kill. Sounds brutal, but better than shooting at one from a distance and almost missing.
They are in Wisconsin too. The only issue I ever had was a coon reached out and grabbed my loose jeans.
I get what you're saying, and in most situations I'd agree 100%. But if they get a foothold in her house, she and her wallet and her home and her peace of mind will all be wishing they had not extended a compassionate courtesy. This is not hunting, this is an infestation. They are highly destructive. A short list of the worse diseases they carry is Leptospirosis, Rabies, Canine Distemper, Raccoon Parvoviral Enteritis, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Toxoplasmosis, and Baylisascaris Procyonis.
I'm confused. You mean she should burst out the door and open fire? Or are you saying if one gets caught in the trap the rest will be too smart to get caught.
She should carefully choose her shot. Trapping an infestation one at a time is not gonna be efficacious...they'll out-breed here ability to cull the herd, assuming that they are all gullible enough to get caught. I don't understand how the city can tolerate this. If there were raccoons going into/out of an occupied home, the .gov types would be all over it.
Today I don't have raccoons to worry about but coyotes! I was on my way to the farm and daughter texted that a coyote had gotten silver laced wyandotte. She managed to get away because daughter had run out yelling. But we didn't know how badly she was hurt. She was cowering in a storage area with my oldest hen. I went and did chores so she could calm down and then went to take her home with me if she was really hurt. BIG pile of feathers but I guess all the coyote got was a mouthful of them because silver ran over to be with the black hen when I peeked in again. I threw some feed for them. Will go back in a bit. I am not sure which gun to leave with daughter. It is illegal to have a loaded gun in your car under constitutional carry. It takes 4 minutes for me to get to the farm if daughter calls. And I hate it when I jump out and say, "Wait till I load up!" to the perpetrator. I have my revolver with 9 shots or my bolt action 22 rifle. No overkill. No kids over there so they can stay loaded.
