Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise are back! New movie is called Top Gun, Maverick and to be released in 2020. The 1986 movie was a blockbuster.
Weren't able to see this in a theater, so, last night, we rented (from our Xfinity On Demand ($5.99) and watched Top Gun: Maverick. The budget for the movie was $170 million, but the Box Office is $1.480 billion! The original Top Gun (1986): Budget: $15 million and Box Office was $357.5 million. Maverick is the very best Naval Air movie I've ever seen! The movie has a few "insert" scenes/pictures from the original and both of us totally remember the original Top Gun. One of the best things I liked about Maverick is that one of the Top Gun pilots is a girl. In the movie, her call-sign is "Phoenix" and it is played by Monica Barbaro. The casting for the movie is absolutely superb! Val Kilmer, "Iceman" character is back from the original Top Gun. He is now an Admiral, but he is very unhealthy. Looked Val up and in real life, he is exactly the same way. Battling throat cancer. Even though I wasn't in Naval Aviation, I was in the regular Navy and part of a Destroyer Escort Group for the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk going to Vietnam. Wife and I have been on an old Navy Aircraft Carrier (Yorktown) that is now a museum in Charleston, SC. We both can truly see why the Box Office amount was so large. It's that great of a movie!
I've heard people say that it was good but, since I wasn't overly impressed with the first Top Gun movie, I don't know if I'll watch it. Maybe.
Well, Ken, with this movies Box Office sales ($1.480 billion) there had to be a whole lot of folks that watched the movie. However, there are sequels that don't make it, but this one sure did. In all reality, this "Maverick" one is much, much better than the original. Then again, Tom Cruise has had many movies done since 1986 (Top Gun) and has gotten that much better at acting. We are going to watch it again, before our rental ends. Yes, it's that good........for us anyway.
This just shows how hard up we Americans are for entertainment. I would put Imo, but since I wrote it everyone knows, its my opinion.
My husband enjoyed it but I didn't watch. I'm not a Tom Cruise fan. I read that Val Kilmer's voice was dubbed by his son. Val has lost his ability to speak clearly since his bouts with throat cancer. Very sad.
I didn't know Val was so ill, Did you watch Val in the movie, 'The Doors" he basically turned into Jim Morrison.
Yes, I saw The Doors. Val used to be such a hottie; I loved all his movies. One of my favorites is Tombstone, with Kurt Russell and Sam Elliott.
We rented Top Gun: Maverick for 48 hours and watched it again last night. The way I, sometimes, think about it, possible those who would've served in Naval Aviation or the regular Navy, like I did, would really like this movie. I mean, the movie did make, and I know I'm repeating myself, but it's astonishing, that the Box Office sales is $1.480 billion dollars. And, the production budget of the movie was $170 million dollars. IOW, there had to be a LOT of people that seen the movie.
Well then I've seen them both now. i have to get busy so have a nice day. Not the chain gang but close far as work goes. And who knows if I keep politicking they may come after me.
