I say both Terence. Inscrutability is a Chinese trademark. Never show true feelings so people wont know what you are really thinking. This CCP "oh we feel hurt by Australia" rhetoric coming from Beijing is a prime example of Chinese hidden face posturing. Deep down they hate us because we have made others see them for what they really are. We have made them lose face and a Chinaman detests that..

This is certain to further inflame China/ West relations with the leaders of the US, India, Australia, Japan to hold its inaugural QUAD summit this month to address "regional and global issues of shared interest, and exchange views on practical areas of cooperation towards maintaining a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region."

The United States says the online summit, which President Biden will attend, will strengthen ties with key allies as China takes an increasingly assertive foreign policy approach across the globe.

The summit will also cover supply chains, emerging and critical technologies, maritime security, and climate change.
India, will also urge QUAD partners to invest in its vaccine production capacity, in an attempt to counter Beijing's widening vaccine diplomacy.

Seems the first QUAD meeting is getting up Beijing's nose with outspoken Foreign Minister Wang Yi accusing the four nations of "selective multilateralism" this week while CCP mouthpiece The Global Times lashed out at the meeting as an "empty talk club".

The Australian government is touting the meeting as "historic" despite the bitter recriminations from the CCP.

Australian PM Scott Morrison will be joined by US President Joe Biden, Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga and India's leader Narendra Modi in what many are seeing as a global game changer.

Admiral Philip Davidson, the head of US Indo-Pacific Command has issued a stern warning to the Senate Armed Services Committee that China is “the greatest long-term strategic threat to security in the 21st century".

“I see them developing systems, capabilities and a posture that would indicate that they’re interested in aggression.” He believes Beijing could take action against Taiwan in the next six years.

China has maintained its military capability is defensive yet this week at the National People's Congress (NPC), Beijing's annual parliamentary session, President Xi Jinping called for the its military to be "constantly ready in the face of "instabilities" and uncertainties" and to develop greater "combat readiness,"

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Friday designated five Chinese companies as posing a threat to national security under a 2019 law aimed at protecting U.S. communications networks.

It said the companies included Huawei Technologies Co, ZTE Corp, Hytera Communications Corp, Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co and Dahua Technology Co.

I don't know just how much you can trust Biden for help. Yes the news is saying he is cracking down on the Chinese but is he really?
US President Joe Biden extended the deadline to 27 May pending a major review of Trump's trade war on Beijing, which slapped dozens of Chinese tech companies with restrictions and bans from May 2019. The Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has approved the extension under a general licence, the FT wrote.

TheBiden administration has reversed Trump-era restrictions and reauthorized most US investments in companies owned or controlled by the Chinese military, according to a Treasury Department notice.

Documents show Hunter Biden still controls a stake in a Chinese investment firm despite his promise to resign from the company's board and a pledge from his father Joe Biden that no one in the family will have foreign business entanglements if he is elected in November.

I wouldn't trust Biden to know when it's time to use the bathroom. I'm guessing that he doesn't have a clue about anything that he has supposedly done or signed since he's been in office. They probably don't bother him with such things.

I don't think manufacturing will ever return to the USA as it once was. Our labor is too expensive
and here shortly we may not have the labor or brain power to turn out quality products as we once
did. Maybe we do and I have been away from manufacturing too long. Or, as some economy experts
say, our nation has past the time when our economy cn go back to the time we were world competitors.
That time has past us and some smaller nations or some nation not as advanced as we, will take over
the manufacturing domain. We still have pockets. We still have pockets of manufacturing but we are
basically a service economy now. I don't think it is possible to go back.

This is the sorta stuff my son reads and hears to keep up with what is happening behind the scenes.. away from the fake news and the rhetoric in the West's largest economy. Beijing sprouts all this '' we are not after confrontation with the West'' when all the time that is precisely its end play.. world domination over America. Not by bombs but by stealth as that is the communist way.

If the dollar collapses, as is planned by the CCP, we will quickly become a third-world nation and our labor will be among the cheapest on the planet due to the inflation of the dollar to accommodate the debt load. One of the only hopes we have is the real weakness of the Chinese military. They have been soundly beaten by the Vietnamese is the past and, more recently, by the Indians in the Himalayas. They have lots of technology and numbers, but a weak command structure and almost no battle-hardened troops, as they don't send their military to fight all over the world in other people's battles. We, however, have been trained mostly to fight little wars with rules, so don't know how we will perform in a "real" war either, but we have a much better military decision-making capacity and our troops HAVE been under fire in significant numbers.

The Chinese may not be as successful as they would like to be in collapsing the dollar.
That is, I think, that is a two way steet. They have been building up their military however in the
two years prior to the pandemic. It appears we may be even then because we have been
soundly beaten by the Vietnamese. And, I fear our military is slightly over rated, not as effective
now and has been sliding since Vietnam.

And I think most of the Alfghan war has been wasted years in so much as to preparing for both
an offense and a defense against the Chinese. Of course none of may know as much as we think
we know about our military and its capibilities, But it appear to me to be weakened over the past years.

I agree, @Bill Boggs. There has been a deliberate effort to demoralize and deconstruct the U.S. military, with openly gay folks, women in combat, and now transgender people. Obama particularly has no respect for the military, and the current guy can't even remember the name of his Secretary of Defense and he seemed to forget what the Pentagon is called, if you saw that press announcement.
