I have a question for here if I may....... The keyboard, typewriter ...... It has been around for years and the letters on the board have always been the same order.. A complicated layout of the alphabet.. How come the letters are where they are in that way?? Who ever decided to put them all over the place in no special order?? Why not of put them in order rather than all mixed up?? What advantage is there having the letters mixed up like they are??
Early typewriters operated in such a way that the keys would stick if someone were typing too fast, so the QWERTY keyboard was intentionally designed so slow people down. Now that we're no longer using typewriters, and even the typewriters that may be used are not so designed, it might make sense to use a more sensible key pattern, but the problem is that by the time anyone figures this out, they have already learned to type on a QWERTY keyboard, and computer keyboards are made in the QWERTY arrangement, so we're stuck with it. There are other, more sensible keyboards available, however. Mental Floss discusses some of the alternatives, Dvorak being perhaps the better known.
The existence of the Alberta oil sands was first recorded by Scottish explorer Alexander Mackenzie in 1790
Supposedly? Can you let us know as a resident whether it comes close to being true? I was in Fresno many years ago, but fail to recall much about it. Except that all about were fields of abundant produce growing. We had camped the night before in Sequoia, travelling down hoping to cross the Golden Gate later. We encountered a town named Los Gatos which sticks in my mind as nice. The first town I think we encountered of any size coming down from the mountains was Visalia. For some reason, I picture crops growing there, too. All this happened in 1966, so the old memory is dim. The extent of crops growing and their multitude of variety astounded me! I wanted to become a part of Southwest living, no doubt. Chicago MUST become history, somehow, I told myself. My new wife concurred, when I revealed these thoughts. A few years later, scouring the Tucson, Phoenix, Prescott, Flagstaff, Vegas areas for a suitable service station venture, I called her back in Chicago to ask if she would accept living in Vegas. "Vegas? It's hot as hell"! "Well, what do you say"? "Sure". The die was cast. We put the house up for sale, and prepared to enter the unknown. I had never moved before; 30 years in that old brick bungalow, I feared the changes extant. Thus, the house I had been born in, grown to know every nook and cranny in, began school from in kindergarten, formed friendships from, dispensed huge centipedes in the basement of, learned most of the skilled trades back in the old garage, had believed I would live there forever, was sold, and I began a totally new journey in life. According to NASA, autumn is “aurora season” because geomagnetic storms are about twice as frequent as the annual average during the fall.
Yes, as I see it, it's true. Avenue 9 is about 10 miles long and all along it I see oranges, vineyards, nuts (trees not people) and other produce that I haven't identified. I'm driving 65 mph there so can't really look. Actually ave 9 is more than 10 miles...I only drive 10 miles on it. If I were to turn right off of Hwy 99 I'm sure there would be more orchards. There is a sign for a winery in that direction so I'm sure there are grapes. I'd love to stop and take a pic for you @Frank Sanoica but Pickles doesn't allow stopping.
Not only does the winter solstice occur on a specific day, but it also occurs at a specific time of day, corresponding to the instant the North Pole is aimed furthest away from the sun on the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth’s axis.
