If a female Emperor Penguin's baby dies, she will often "kidnap" an unrelated chick—but rather than raise it as her own, she soon abandons the stolen chick.

Pumpkins are 90 percent water, and at one time were believed to have removed freckles and cured snake bites.

We raised rabbits during our isolation from the "system" for a year in the woods of Northern Arizona. For food purposes, no source of income beyond the $450 per month the buyer of our home in Phoenix was paying us. Land and car payment ate $376 of that, so we bought very little.

My wife had studied up on rabbits for food purposes. One amazing fact was, when a brood of babies was born, any foreign odor detected by the mother rabbit caused immediate desertion of the baby by the mother! You dared not even get close to that litter!

I thought that was true with birds and their babies in the nest.

It may be so. Maybe not with all birds though. I wouldn't mess with a Momma Vulture!

Israel is renowned for its water conservation initiatives, being one of the world's only countries that has such effective water supply and conservation infrastructure that it can fully function without rain.

Ostriches can run faster than horses, and the male ostriches can roar like lions.

Ottawa is the fifth coldest capital in the world but it’s not so long ago that it was the second-coldest capital. We can thank the break-up of the Soviet Union and the emergence of “new” capitals for pushing Ottawa down the list.

The coldest temperature ever recorded in Canada was -63C (-81.4F) on February 3, 1957 in Snag, Yukon.

The coldest temperature I have ever experienced was in Ironsides Quebec and it was -62f.. Absolutely not a car started in the morning.. Let me tell you it was totally brutal..
