Having tolerance or being tolerant is in degrees. As in engineering, there’s leeway. As in medication there’s a level a of acceptance.

In humans, being the imperfect species that we are, have degrees of tolerance to a variety of environmental conditions and actions of humans and other species.
in our social contacts we learn to accept and tolerate. Learned behaviour implies it’s a choice. We chose the learn and we chose to accept.

there’s nothing obligatory about any of it. No god declared what we should or shouldn’t be tolerant of. Society does determine acceptable levels of tolerance in some social issues but generally leaves the rest to convention, culture, agreement between parties.

if I speak on my own behalf, which is the only way I can be accurate, I have different levels of tolerance ranging from barking dogs at night as zero and any form of chocolate at 100%. I have allergies that I tolerate at different levels. Hay fever is barely acceptable when the wattle and milkwood is in flower because I enjoy the flowers more so. I have a low to moderate tolerance of Mormons calling at my door, depending on my mood for a good argument. I know there are some who cannot tolerate my propensity to use profanities and to blaspheme so I moderate my language when in their company.
Pain is a….. er….pain. The doctor asked me what my level of pain is (which is different to my tolerance).
    “10, doc, and rising.”
“You know women report child birth as a 10”, he reminds me.
“ there’s a few issues with that, doc. Firstly, I’m not a woman and I can’t compare with what I haven’t had. Secondly, I don’t care. There’s nothing so immediate than ones own pain. Being told someone is worse of is intolerable”

As for politics, teenagers, small children, shop sales, school functions and my wife’s cooking, I avoid contact when I can. When I’m obliged to participate I expose every living soul to my vexation. Oh, yes, and religious ceremonies such as Xmas, Easter, christenings, funerals and marriage councillors.

Has my level of tolerance altered over the years? Without a doubt.
Am I generally more tolerant than I was when young? Not likely. It’s just that the equilibrium has stabilised for a moment in a different orientation.
Tomorrow I might take a liking to Brussel Sprouts and relatives, and a dislike for sleeping in and drinking whisky.
    But I hope not.

Aside from fingernails making squealing sounds on a chalk board or someone who passes gas on an elevator, there is nothing I can think of that is more aggravating than a reply to a post that says nothing.

Basically, it's: We choose how to look, what to wear. We choose the type of personality we like (funny/sarcastic or serious). We choose what bad habits we do and ones we refuse to do. We choose the kind of language we want to speak. We choose the type of friends we want.

It's all a matter of choice.

Since I seldom ride elevators and never sit in a class with a chalk board, that only leaves me with one.

Ah, getting off to a fantastic start I see.

Was that a stab at humor, sarcasm or your unabridged opinion of the membership?

Must have reached my tolerance level.
I’ve taken my pills and will endeavour to behave.

Just as a small suggestion, why not pop into the actual introduction board and say howdy, where ya from and all that other stuff people might be curious about.

I started to do that and couldn’t think of anything interesting to say.
I might make up some stuff. No one would know, right?

Help me understand. Are you saying that your aggravation is caused by someone replying to a post that didn't say anything, or the replying post didn't say anything? Maybe both apply to this thread. Screeeeech!!!!! Poooooot!!!!
