Cody, kids in school today are not like the military in your day. It is a unique teaching event and in this day and age, one is never too young or too old to learn. I wouldn't call rodeos silly. ;)

Another eclipse day note....everybody in my family was hoping my niece would have her baby today but so far...nothing!

It would have been a good story to tell her daughter (it's a girl). :)

I forgot about it. Although I was outdoors for a while today, mowing the lawn and gardening, I didn't notice anything.

It all depended where you were...bet if you were somewhere that had a total eclipse, you would have noticed.

I wonder how much was due to "liability" issues. Kids using improper viewers, etc. and parents blaming the schools.

Have to agree that it's a different "day and age". Some of my wife's co-workers worked from home (computer work) because their kids had the day off. My wife never "works from home" because we don't want the company to have access to our computer.

As far as rodeo goes, there has been plenty of "protests" about it at Main Gates to outside arena's and indoor and outdoor stadiums. I know. Myself and some other contestants were blocked by protestors at the main entrance to a county fair rodeo. But, the good old local County Sheriff guided us in.

    Anyway, back to the OP.

The News over here has been warning us for days to get our solar glasses and not to look up at the sun without them. Our local channels never said we would not see much, if any of it here....instead they basically let everyone think we were going to see the Eclipse in its totality. Not that I cared if I saw it or not...I just hate when the News people do not tell the truth.

I knew I wouldn't see a total eclipse here...there were maps showing who would see what on many sites @Babs Hunt , think someone even posted it on here.

Not all schools had off so I guess it just depended. There are some schools that haven't even started the school year yet....usually the east coast starts later. My nieces and nephew in NJ are still on summer vacation.

I will be happy to see the Eclipse on the News in a little while. But I really didn't want it coming here because I was concerned my children or grandkids...or even my Honey would look up at it without those solar sunglasses and mess up their eyesight. I was babysitting my youngest grandkids over at my daughters and I had all the curtains closed so they couldn't look outside during the hours the News said we were going to get it.

For at least 5 days our local News channels had been harping on the Solar Eclipse like we were getting a Category 5 Hurricane! I just want to call them and ask them why they did that when they knew we weren't going to get it here.

That is awesomely beautiful , @Chrissy Cross ! ! I wonder if those are sun flares that we can see shooting out from the top and bottom ? If they are, they look to be some pretty big ones, glad they aren't headed towards earth .

I was a bit disappointed in the eclipse. We got 97% coverage but it never got dark. The light got kinda weird looking but that's all. We did enjoy it, though. We had an eclipse party with good company and good food. We shared the eclipse glasses so that everybody got a good look at it. It was amazing to see. One of the most fascinating things to see was the crescent shapes where the sun was shining through the leaves on my oak tree.
