Another Seattle trip coming up this week, more of a happy/sad trip this time.
For some time now, my ex-husband (kids’ dad) had been having more and more health issues, and early this month, he unexpectedly passed away, possibly from an aneurism or stroke, or something similar.
Anyway, most of his family live in the Seattle area, except for my two sons, who are in eastern Washington and north Idaho; so we will be having a family memorial service in Seattle next Friday.

Robin just flew home from the Netherlands Friday, and on Tuesday, we will take her car to Nashville, spend the night there, and fly out to Spokane early Wednesday morning. My two sons will meet us at the airport, and then we drive over to Seattle together, and Robin has an airbnb place for us to stay while we are there.
Thursday will be a recuperation day, and visiting with anyone who wants to come and see us, and then Friday will be the memorial gathering at a nearby park, and Saturday we drive back home to my son’s house in Bonners Ferry.
Monday morning is our return flight to Alabama, so it will be a busy week next week; but I am looking forward to seeing parts of my extended family that I have not seen for many years, so that will be a wonderful part of the trip for me.

I love the West Coast, and lived there for many years. I would still love to be out there and be somewhere close to the ocean. However, a move like that is not a practical thing, and a lot of what I enjoyed doing, I probably couldn’t do anymore anyway; but the memories are still good ones.
I will be taking pictures as we travel, and (of course) will have my iPad along with me, so I can keep in touch with everyone here on the forum, and iMessage my Sweetie-Pie while I am gone.

Sorry for your family's loss, Yvonne. Sad reason for the trip but I hope you enjoy seeing relatives that you haven't seen in a while.

Sorry to hear about the death of your kid's father. It is wonderful that you will attend and spend time with your kids and others. It is also wonderful that you can still travel. The Northwest is a beautiful place. While we have some smoke from fires, it is nothing like last year. Wishing you safe travels and an enjoyable stay.

It was a very long trip out here, but we are now enjoying the Airbnb, and rested up from yesterday.
We drove up to Nashville Tuesday evening, and had to be up by 3AM on Wednesday to get to the airport enough ahead of time.
Then we flew to Seattle, changed planes and flew back to Spokane, where my two sons picked up Robin and I , and then we drove back over the mountains to Seattle, and up to the Snohomish/Monroe area.
By the time we got here last night, I was so tired I could barely stand up, so I took a quick shower, and crashed for the next 12 hours, waking up sometime during the night to message Bobby and let him know that we arrived safe and sound.

Robin scheduled a wheelchair to help me get through the airports, since we had to hurry, and had to wear a mask, which makes it even harder for me to breathe and get enough air.

This is from the plane as we flew over the Cascade mountains .

We travelled recently to Indianapolis to meet a new grandson, and I found travelling very miserable. Not only the "eternal mask mandate" making it very hard to breathe (wife thought I was having a heart attack), but the fact that there was little or no food available in several airports. I doubt I will be willingly travelling anytime soon. I am glad you did not have a roungh time, @Yvonne Smith .

It’s somewhat of a paradox when one thinks about it.
I told Yvonne that the death is indeed unfortunate but if not for that, the possibility of her seeing all her children at one time again was fairly bleak.
We’re getting up there in age and her daughter is working in the Netherlands, one son is in Washington and the other in Idaho so…..

Glad your trip has been OK so far, Yvonne. It does sound exhausting and the mask thing... UGH. Enjoy your time with the children.

    Love the photo of Rainier.

Wow, that's lots of travel hassle. Glad you got where you needed to be without any major incidents. I hear plane travel is getting tense lately.

We have been staying at an Airbnb, and except that it is a split level with lots of steps, it is pretty comfortable and plenty of room for all four of us. The weather has been sunny until today, and I woke up this morning to rain, and more expected this afternoon. Naturally, today is the day of the outside memorial service at a nearby park; so I do not know how that is going to work out.
Both nights, I have just crashed and been asleep in literally seconds after my head hit the pillow, but we are having a great time, and lots of good family visiting time.

Here is where we are staying. I really like the Airbnb a lot better than a hotel, and it is easier to fit more people. We have the whole upper level, and a nice back deck off the kitchen. It is north of Seattle a little ways, but we still had to go on the interstate to get here.
