Trump may also have a deal with DeSantis to appoint Gaetz to the Senate to rub those Senators faces in their arrogance.
Interesting. "WASHINGTON – Former Rep. Matt Gaetz said he will not rejoin Congress in January after dropping his bid to be President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general. "I'm still going to be in the fight, but it's going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress," the Florida Republican told Charlie Kirk Friday in his first interview since withdrawing his name from consideration on Thursday." https://www.yahoo.com/news/matt-gaetz-says-not-return-172334802.html
Trump Appoints Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary Bessent, 62, is a Wall Street veteran and founder of international macro investment company Key Square Group. He served as a key economic adviser to Trump’s 2024 campaign. I find it interesting that Trump's inner circle are openly stating their opinions (good and bad) on the nominees that Trump is considering for these positions. Last week, Musk endorsed a different contender for the spot (Howard Lutnick) on X, while saying this about Bissent: “Bessent is a business-as-usual choice. Business-as-usual is driving America bankrupt, so we need change one way or another.” RFK Jr. also came out strongly in favor of Lutnick. Trump's leading candidates to head the Treasury had, in most cases, been vocal supporters of trade levies, though their strategies differed.
He now has appointed a female Secretary of Labor and a female Surgeon General. Where is he finding all the weak, dumb women that Mark Cuban complained about? If these aren't strong, intelligent, capable women, I don't know any either. Trump must be really threatened by all this.
I was gonna tag the female names on the list I've been keeping, but I suspect those women want to be recognized for their qualifications.
Trump appoints (R) Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Secretary of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer has spent some time in politics. She was elected to the city council of Happy Valley, Oregon, in 2004. She was elected mayor in 2010 and reelected in 2014. She served as mayor until 2018. She lost her bid to serve in Oregon's House in 2016, and later explored (and rejected) a gubernatorial bid. In 2022 she was elected to Congress representing Oregon's 5th District. This past election she lost a squeaker of a race that was called for her Democrat opponent on November 8. Online articles are short on details regarding any history she might have working with Trump.
Trump picks Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as surgeon general. Dr. Nesheiwat is a medical director for a network of urgent care centers in New York and New Jersey. She has worked for the Samaritan's Purse disaster relief organization providing care in Morocco, Haiti and Poland. Dr. Nesheiwat has been a Fox News contributor.
Yeh, I had to search to find anything about her background other than "FOX News Contributor." The media puts that sideline first, and may make side reference to her being a director of urgent care clinics. There is no context or frame of reference for this stuff. Reuters said "...again showing preference for a television personality as the face of the new administration." I wonder how many times she appears in a given year. It ain't like he's hired Jesse Waters. Another interesting thing is this flurry of Friday nominees. There's usually a "keep it out of the media" tactic for choosing Fridays, but these are relatively benign appointments (except that Labor may have an anti-union component under a Republican administration.) I suspect his choices for ATF and FBI are what's gonna make Liberals' heads explode.
I saw this line as a joke on the Libertarian forum, but it made me go, "hmmmmmm." Can't wait until AG Bondi appoints Special Council Gaetz to investigate all of this.
Some folks are concerned about Dr. Nesheiwat's pro-vax position. Here is an opinion piece she wrote for Fox News in October of 2021 titled We are bringing the COVID pandemic to an end. Here's how to keep the trend going.
I just skimmed it, but it looks like she is a shill for Big Pharma. Not a good thing, especially for children.
Yup. And I question the sanity behind her assertion that the flu vax (which has always been available), masking and hand washing brought flu deaths down from 50,000 to under 1,000. There was no mention of them being mis-classed as COVID deaths. In pushing for rapid approval of a Merck COVID drug, she claimed there are more than 1,700 deaths nationwide PER DAY that it could prevent. (Let's see...1,700 x 365 = 620,000 deaths per year.)
Trump announced on Friday the nomination Scott Turner to lead his Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Turner, an ex-NFL player, worked during Trump’s first term, serving as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council to help support the most distressed communities in the country. Sources say former HUD Secretary Ben Carson, who led HUD during Trump’s first term, was offered the position again but declined. Instead, Carson advocated for the nomination of Turner. Those sources also say that there are discussions to bring Carson into the Trump administration in another role.
